Thread regarding ViaSat Inc. layoffs

Optimistic

Today was a good day. I hope for more good days like today. I hope that our leadership team can dig us out of debt. I hope that VS3F2 can get launched and be the game-changer that so many smart and good people have staked their professional reputations on. I hope that we can exceed our all time high stock price. I hope there are no more RIFs. I hope that we can become a disruptive force for good in our industry. I hope that we can evolve, change, meet the challenges and do the hard work WITHOUT losing that thing that made legacy Viasat such an incredible place to work. I'm not opposed to MD and GG, they just haven't made me any money yet as an employee. 8 years and counting. One good day does not dig them out of this hole. When they bring me returns at least equivalent to the market I too will sing their praises. Until then, they remain in the losses column of my portfolio. Didn't know working for Viasat would be so expensive.

I will feel optimistic when they say the layoffs are over and they mean it.

I also hope so, but hope has wrecked my RSU/ESPP valuation so I expect they would address the tougher questions and not avoid them with self-contragulatory meetings.

Armies tend to fight the last war, the last battle, and the last skirmish. The all-hands was exclusively focused on all the cool ways we solve......yesterday's problem. We're already in a world where gobs of capacity are available and further expanding. StarLink will have about 200-300 Tbps in orbit by end of 2024. If we just look at CONUS, about 2-4% of that capacity is available for use which is 4-12 Tbps which overwhelms our 1 Tbps capacity for flight 2 in 2025.

We're entering a world where capacity is a plentiful commodity. We're solving yesterday's problem and fighting yesterday's battle bc we missed the LEO disruption and remain stuck with constrained GEO capacity. At StarLink's and Kuiper's capacity, all the optimization brilliance discussed today isn't as important. They are flooding the market with capacity. Our past battle strategy won't be effective in the new world.

I need leaders to talk to us about fighting the next battles to keep hope alive.

The competition right now is unreal. The fact that Viasat is still in the game says alot. They will have to move quick, with a new, easier to use product. Possibly better price points. It's a big market, hopefully they can find/keep their share in it.
