Management three levels up is on PTO today and we haven’t heard a peep about layoffs. Are they seriously going to send us into the weekend with this level of anxiety? Maybe I’ll get a meeting invite any minute eliminating all of our positions?

Let's talk about plausible deniability. Your boss doesn't know if you're on the list until very soon before. People they don't even regularly interact with looked at data points and chose names. Those people don't want to know you or talk to you. They don't want to hear s-b stories. They don't care. If you're super lucky, you might get a single leader in your org who is a decent human being. My theory is that we train the humanity out of people. Dear Gail, the humanity that needs improving is the humanity in your org. The ones you'd like to pretend could all be automated.
There have been layoffs going on for almost a year now. Have they told you how you are safe even once that entire time? No news is good news. They aren't exactly transparent. They'll just keep acting like nothing is happening. One town hall had a direct question about the RIFS and the response basically was, "don't you see all the jobs we keep posting every day? Everything is fine." Jusy evil liars and a--holes here at Elevance He-l.
No news is good news.
As someone who has been on the other end of this, you likely won't hear anything. It's a big secret. They tell you to go home for the weekend and you aren't allowed to tell anyone.
You aren't going to get that, unfortunately
I want to take no news as good news but I’m finding it really odd that my boss, their boss, and their boss’ boss all happen to be out on PTO today.
@OP if you haven’t heard about layoff or any 1:1 meeting so far. You are safe this round. Enjoy your weekend.
There have not been any communications sent to the masses for any of the past RIFS. Leaders are meeting with associates on teams that have been impact. I would take no news as good news for your area.
It would be nice if our managers would let us know if our team has not been affected. I’m sitting here being all nervous every time an email comes through thinking “this is it”.
