Looks like older employees are being targeted once again. Not surprising at all but still disheartening.

I'm 30 and was RIF'd
They say they don’t look at your age. Don’t believe it. My co-worker and I are 65. We sat in the same room to be rif’d today. Sad angry that not appreciated for wisdom, knowledge and maturity that we both posses. Have worked so hard to keep progress moving forward.
I was RIF’ed earlier this year and then recently saw my position being advertised with a slightly lower title and lower pay. They clearly are pushing out anyone with a salary on the “higher end” (I use that term loosely- ha). They want to pay the lowest possible salaries. That means getting rid of people 40ish and up with more experience.
Gail B. recently cashed out her stock so what does that tell you??!!
Same as it ever was.
They're always really careful to throw in some young white folks, though.
Last smaller RIF I was close to, one had a potential lawsuit and was angry enough to pursue it (more than one did, but he's the only one who went after it) until the attorney requested make-up of others let go. He ended up being told that because they ran the gamut (despite being skewed heavily older and/or ethnic minorities - he fell into one of these categories), there wasn't much to be done.
I think he continued to push it with another attorney, though, since at one point I was named and was interviewed, and likely ended up with a settlement, since he ghosted me when I followed up with him on the outcome. Guessing he was under an NDA as part of the settlement, because he wouldn't have ghosted me otherwise, especially considering we were personal friends.
For sure. Management wants to get rid of people at the top of their pay grade in a short-sighted attempt to proclaim that they have 'optimized resources.'. This will backfire of course but by that time the people who have put it in motion will have left the company and sold their stock and will be kicking back in the Cayman Islands or some place like that.
