Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Why aren’t we asked to give a performance review of our managers/supervisors?

Our supervisors can rank us, but we don’t rank them. Why? What if you are PiP’ed because your supervisor su-ks and wants you out?

op is not very smart, must be from LSU, UT, or worse UT. You don’t get to tank managers because you are not smart and your opinion doesn’t matter. If you don’t like it, then LEAVE! How many people quit ExxonMobil because they can’t rank their boss? Zero. If that is your biggest complaint about ExxonMobil then you have it very good.

Why are you asking this on a layoff board? Again, you are not smart. Show your name so you can be PIP’d.

This falls into the rule...

Nothing is stopping you from providing feedback at anytime to anyone or anyone’s supervisor.why do you have to be asked? I’ve provided positive and negative feedback unsolicited directly to people and their supervisors as well.

For the past five years at least supervisors are expected to include direct reports in their feedback list. They don’t include their whole group so there is cherry picking but everyone cherry picks their feedback right?

Answer is simple. Supervisors have to do unpopular things as part of their job. It isn’t a popularity contest. Besides I’ve seen what people in this company call feedback and it is pathetic Lu inadequate and unhelpful. When was the last time your feedback from the assessment process helpful?

This is the ultimate problem at exxon. No accountability for the actions of the supervisors. There is no fairness in ranking. If they want to drop you they will. The reason is usually stupid and vague. I have only seen HR save a few because of other factors. One supervisor was pi---d because the one they piped was not piped because of HRs intervention. If they have it out for you it's over. If you can escape to another group maybe you can survive a few more years. It is not fair at all.

CL28 NRE here. The best part of being old at this point is giving no fux in rank sessions and wrecking pre rank seriatims. High light of my career. May you all grow to an age where you can just be a choas maker.

“feedback was a "gift" and that perception is reality “
Wow, either you have the same manager or they operate from the same script.

A few of us were asked to give 360 feedback in support of our manager's leadership training program. Was honest with constructive feedback, and I was later called into his office so he could argue with me about it. Interesting how this same manager told me that feedback was a "gift" and that perception is reality during my KO discussion.

Chosen HiPos are not affected by honest bad KO input.

The Supervisors that represent the HiPos receive phone calls threatening them if they give honest bad 2 minute drills.

I have seen a Supervisor dropped undeservedly because he placed a HiPo female below two really good guys that had no sponsorship.

I was asked to provide 360 feedback...once and one time only. I was honest and provided a fair assessment of thier leadership and behaviors. If asked for a rank group (i wasnt), I would have been generous giving a "Good". Well wouldn't you know it... but my own subsequent assessment dropped 2 rank groups. Hmmm...won't be su-kered into doing that again.
