Thread regarding AMD (Advanced Micro Devices Inc.) layoffs

AMD will be the next INTEL to fail

AMD now has over 50% managers and directors came from INTEL with fat paycheck. AMD internal process is a big mess and follows INTEL culture now. Lots of meetings, lots of talking, lots of visibility, but less people take action.

INTEL virus infected AMD. Beware.

I worked there for a couple of years and am glad I was laid off.

The team I was bundled into had no clue what they were doing.

AMD has gone through significant “title inflation”. In the old days, directors typically had teams of at least 20, senior directors could have 100, and VPs oversaw an organization. Now there are gobs of execs running around leading teams of only a handful of people.

Not just too many managers. WAY TOO MANY VPs making bad decisions and being coddled nonetheless. VPs need to start being held to their group performance objectives.

Spot on. I, a developer, was laid off, but the sea of "people managers" are safe. Endless meetings, forcing us to make presentations in order to justify their meaningless jobs.

As an aside, most developers are in North America and QA is in India. Communication is a huge problem because of both the time zone difference and their lack of English ability.

AMD is becoming a terrible company and I'm kinda glad I was laid off before they become the next Intel.
