Observability and Splunk

How is Observability (FSO) doing these days? Who do think would get the proverbial axe first for overlap between Observability and Splunk employees?

Cisco doesn't need all the splunk people coming over. Simple as that. They will just take the products, some dev, some app, some SMEs and move it along. Dont see them keeping any customer success or even splunk support, but who knows. Knew a guy who left Cisco to go to Splunk. I laughed when I heard the acquisition news.

Makes no difference who gets the axe first. Once Cisco takes over the decline into obscurity is inevitable. Today it might be AppD, tomorrow it will be Splunk and then ThousandEyes. Lest we forget that when Cisco bought AppD back in 2017, AppD was king of the hill in the space until 2021 when it fell behind in technology since Cisco was more interested in milking the cow rather than making investments in product. Once your competitors surpass you it’s almost impossible to catch up.

The problem is Cisco attempts to act as a Big Tech conglomerate trying to integrate all these disparate solutions into a single unified platform and is failing because it lacks the strategic vision and the ability to execute on that vision. It doesn’t know what to buy and when to buy it, but even when it does, it doesn’t know what to do with it.

But the decline isn’t just relegated to some BUs, but it appears the majority of BUs are suffering from a general malaise and decline in morale among those left. I’ve worked for many companies, but have never witnessed anything like this in my career.

Liz spent a ton of money to build the FSO platform, which took too long and had a slow roadmap. The Splunk cloud platform is moving ahead and the FSO platform and CCO are now dead. Resources working on these defunct products are likely to be cut after the knowledge transfer is complete.
Same thing goes for the so called customer success people from CX that have no clue about FSO. They are likely to be cut with the new CX SVP coming from Splunk. If you are in (cr)APPD you should get out while you can.

@qpb+1tRLOqqW Yup most of AppD is redundant now. Probably for the best if it got sold off or cut.

I imagine AppD is going to be impacted as its basically being absorbed into splunk, but some areas within AppD that are integrated with splunk with an active roadmap may be okay. Dont really know
