When I was with Cigna Medicare, our leaders stated we weren't making a profit. The medicare business was/is in the red…
I’ve heard the same thing about Cigna and Humana. With Cigna’s history, Humana would just get ran into the ground like other Medicare Advantage companies bought by Cigna.
MA is a difficult space in which to turn a profit.
Cordani probably realizes that effort & investment can make more money elsewhere.
Humana's Managed Care (Part C) Medicare is on the verge of bankruptcy and hanging on by a thread. Why in the world world would Cigna want to buy a loser like this?
Cigna wants to buy Humana, but the government won't allow that due to antitrust laws. So Cigna is strategically selling of it's current Medicare line of business to reduce any antitrust issues merging with Humana in the future.
