Thread regarding Anthem Inc. layoffs

Nervous for next week

I don’t regret coming to this site. I had coworkers laid off in October and I was completely taken by surprise. There have been signs I may be cut on 8/8. Maybe it’s paranoia and maybe it’s not. Like someone else mentioned, my manager told me we can worry about my midyear later. I don’t even have goals. The refresher training many of my colleagues have is nonexistent in my workday. I haven’t been given any new projects, even though we have some new stuff coming in. Last week, my manager canceled this week’s one on one with me with no explanation. Maybe it’s all coincidence, but this is never happened to me before.

Oof, hate to say it but I think you're on the chopping block. Most of that stuff happened to me in September when I got told. Had not had a chance to do goals/midyear with manager. Also had recently been reassigned to a new manager a couple weeks earlier and she made no effort to try to get to know me. Previous manager canceled my 1:1s, new manager didn't schedule new ones. Was asked to outline my job duties. Was asked for a 15min meeting with old manager first thing next morning, just to "chat." Turned out to be her with an HR person giving me the news that it was not personal, just a "business decision." Had to attend a zoom call with about 400 other people to get more information.
If your Spidey-sense is tingly, trust it. Get your resume ready, save contact info for co-workers, download anything personal off your laptop. Good luck.

I am a manager who had the unfortunate job of RIF'ing an individual in person about 15 years ago. The person made a big scene in the office immediately afterwards. No one was afraid, physically, but it was loud, disruptive and disturbing. So I could see managers encouraging WFH next week Thursday, hopefully not for extreme reasons but just for a reason of reducing drama (and yes I know that there are other, better ways to reduce the RIF- related drama, just sharing a past experience).

@1jpw+1tO4ztDD Did you manager tell you this, or someone who directly heard it from their manager? That's a very strong and scary statement that shouldn't be shared lightly.

I never even thought of that. I may be remote for 8/8.

Managers have been heard telling their people not to come in to the office to work on 8/8, in case someone goes postal. >.<

Listen to your gut, and make what preparation you can now. I cruised the internal jobs this morning and started updating my resume. I made a list of training items I need for certain jobs, and I’m looking into programs. I don’t know what next week holds for me, but I’m trying to control what I can. If I do survive august, I’ll be enrolling in some certification programs to bolster my credentials band resume.
