I was Riffed last Oct, after working here 21 years and was completely blindsided.
I received a meeting invite mid morning for a 1 pm meeting. I thought it was a team meeting, but when I signed on, it was only my manager and an HR rep.
My manager read the script and then HR read their script and asked if I had questions. It was over in less than five minutes.

I was told in a 1x1. My manager read a 2-minute script like a robot and didn't even look at me. Then they dropped off and HR started reading their script like a robot. I was at the company for 18 years, and was consistently told that i was a valuable employee up until....???....the last few months I guess. I have no idea how I went from being highly valued for so long to zero
value so abruptly. It was sad and shocking. This was earlier this year and I am doing my best to move on but it is tough.
look out for a 15 minute meeting come in the day of or before.
I wasn’t RIF’d but I was told by two coworkers that there were “hundreds” of people on the call with them. This was last year when they brought in MM and cut entire departments by 50%.
When I was laid off last year, I received an invite on Monday for an ad hoc 1-1 for that Thursday, when I was let go.
Usually done as a group, not individual meetings. My call had the 9 people it affected plus HR rep. Manager was not there because he was let go too and had already been told earlier that morning.
My last one was our entire area was on a Teams call and told all on this call will be let go as of xx/xx/xxxx. If you were there you know what I am talking about. It was traumatic. Previously (yes, been through more than one) was 1:1 with rep present. Meeting invite comes shortly before time to meet.
I was rif'd over 10 years ago along with several other peers. We learned of this rif in a last minute meeting when we were all called into a conference room. It was essentially a round table rif announcement. It was brutal!!! But I and some peers made it through. We all found positions in another department so we were still peers.
You will get a 15 min meeting invite the morning of the RIF. It will be you, your manager, and an HR rep.
