but these days it’s been special type of torture. You can feel immediately the heightened anxiety and everyone being on edge. And I’m also contributing to a bad atmosphere. I just wish layoffs are over already and we can all settle down, regardless of how it will work out for each of us. This vibe is literally unbearable.

No, you do not charge the 8th to PTO
Do we have to charge the 8th to PTO even though we are being forced to take the day off? I plan to burn thru my remaining PTO one way or the other since I won't get paid for any of it when I exit.
This RIF is the worst kept secret ever, but we won't even know in eight or nine days how bad it really was until our emails to colleagues start bouncing. For me, that's even worse than the vibe hanging over us right now, is knowing from history that unless we are specifically told by those impacted (who will have been instructed not to do that, lest they risk supp pay), we'll be getting bounces for the next 60 days.
Keep an eye out for colleagues who go offline on the 8th and are still offline on the 9th. That's the only real clue. But if you ask them, they may deflect, because again, they'll be under threat of losing our version of severance if they're honest.
You'd think at some point they'd realize we're all hip to the pattern, but they haven't deviated from it in years.
