Do we lose any unused PTO if rif’d? Does insurance stop 09/30/24?

While I appreciate the spirit of your comment, you'll quickly find that a) people on unlimited can't donate and b) it won't be approved unless under very specific parameters. I do appreciate the spirit, though.
I also would hope there wouldn’t be any pushback from your manager if you want to use as much PTO as possible before the final departure date. Although I would not be surprised if there was as a final power move at least by mine😡
If you aren’t able to use you pro before your end date, a good option nis to donate it to other employees.
@jcb+1tMlUSWG That is not correct You medical etc doesn’t end until your severance runs out I know someone in the January RIF She was also allowed to take her PTO and was off most of that last month
UPTO
From one of my RIF documents:
“Effective January 1, 2021, if your termination effective date is on or after that date you will not be paid out unused PTO unless required by state law. Some states require payment for all accrued and unused PTO upon termination of employment. Currently, this includes associates working in California, Colorado, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts,
Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Rhode Island and Maine. Also, union associates in certain collectively bargained PTO programs will be paid for all accrued and unused PTO upon termination of employment if required by terms of their applicable CBA. To the extent state law allows for forfeiture of unused PTO with notice, employees are hereby
put on notice that all unused PTO shall be forfeited at the time of termination, regardless of the reason for termination of employment.
When PTO time is paid upon termination, income taxes will be withheld at the supplemental tax rate. Time in the STD supplement bank is not paid out at termination.”
It depends on the state your are in. Some states mandate unused PTO payouts, others do not. If you are RIF'd you'll need to ask about that, and then use all your PTO up in that last 30 days if your state isn't protected.
Most states are use it or lose it. As mentioned, California is one of the few where it doesn't apply, California has to pay out unused.
As for insurance, your coverage will end the last day of your last month, so yes, 9/30/24. You'll have the opportunity to get COBRA, which will be extremely expensive.
By the way, they usually build in "you can't take PTO during your notice period," so take it if you can, but don't be surprised if it's denied and you just watch your earned income go up in a puff of smoke. They get us coming and going. We're expected to su-k up our termination, not tell anyone, and continue working as though the ax isn't hovering a hair's breadth above our necks the last 30 days.
Few states pay it out (ca) being one others like GA you better take it all once you get notification or you just lose it
Your insurance will last as long as your severance, but you may have the option to purchase COBRA (expensive!)
In state of CA you will be paid your PTO balance. Not sure about other states.
Probably depends on your state laws. Most people will lose PTO, so if you are RIFd make sure to use all you can before your last day.
