Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

The September layoff will be very massive

Movement happening from corporate HQ on this. All departments and bands affected across all operations with attempts to avoid trying to payout severance of any sort. At this point, there is no redeeming quality with this leadership, and it will not get better until ALL of them are gone either by force or retire.

USM = US Medical, not exactly sure what it entails, but I know it's what Cigna consisted of pre-ESI acquisition, so none of the PBM/Home Delivery portions that acquisition provided

H1B = A type of visa for US non-citizens to be able to work for a US company (needing a "sponsorship" from the company itself from my understanding, not an expert at all though)

Cigna wanted to buy Anthem almost a decade ago, then wanted to merge with Humana and that fell through. Why else would they spin up a services company like Evernorth, if not to detach USM from everything that can be a business that sells services to many insurance companies? They can keep this as the core business. If Cigna doesn’t buy/merge with another employer based insurance company soon expect it to sell USM for a very large amount.

@3udb+1tLIVZkB Important enough has nothing to do with it. If you don’t su-k up to your superiors and they don’t like you, and there’s someone at HIH willing to do the “same” job for 1/3 the cost, you’ll be laid off. It doesn’t matter how much knowledge you have or how good you are. They don’t care. They just need short term profits so they can sell USM after MA is officially gone.

Very strong chance middle managers will be affected ar some point. This is because they cannot have redundant roles at HIH and US. One should take a good look at their roles and decide if it is important enough to be not offshored. If not, you could be at risk.

Only 300-350 H1b employees are there as FTE. That’s very minimal. I believe that’s should be a problem for the company. Are we taking about contractors in H1b?

@oij+1tLIVZkB - It is my sincere wish that this statement holds true. The cost of one H1B employee is equivalent to that of two non-H1B employees. Furthermore, my recent research indicates that without immigration reform, these individuals may never attain citizenship. I fail to comprehend why companies prioritize H1B workers for menial tasks, when any American citizen is capable of performing the same duties.

@mkz+1tLIVZkB, Sometimes not . I am director and lot of times I get a brief notice from the Sr Director on what’s happening in the org. The I need to filter some info to my sr manager reportees. So there is a lot of confidential things happening behind the scenes . Sometimes we aren’t aware until the last minute. And it’s generally a day before an official announcement.

Avoiding paying severance seems to be unfolding in the SNP world. Completely changed everyone’s job description, made the expectations unrealistic, PIPs soon to follow. They either want us to quit or we will be fired.

@wyv+1tLIVZkB My manager was on a leadership meeting a couple months ago where they were told all H1Bs in the org would be let go as it is expensive and they can be replaced with HIH employees. So yeah September is going to be brutal

If you look at the policy it has been updated to include termination for non-compliance of FOW. My guess is they will use thw badge swipe reporting as their backup, no PIP required for that.

It is unfortunate that a significant amount of effort is being put into downsizing the workforce. The company is transitioning from onshore to offshore, yet they are hesitant to consider replacing H1Bs with offshore workers. They seem willing to cover the expenses associated with H1B visas, in addition to providing benefits to those employees, but they are contemplating the benefits provided to the citizens if the United States. The direction in which this company is heading is unclear. Let's not overlook the financial resources allocated to onshore and offshore contractors.

I suppose they could fire every person who hasn’t adhered to FOW, but they won’t be able to avoid severance for most people.

I doubt they can avoid giving severance unless everyone they want to let go is put on a 4-week PIP.

That would be unmanageable for HR.
