Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

LRs announcement August 14, day of earnings, employees notified by Friday Aug 16

This will be bigger than Feb 2024 due to Splunk merger. Reliable sources. Others add as you know. Don’t trust management - sc--w these jokers. Their time is coming soon.

If you need to be on the LR list, make sure you speak up loudly on internal calls about how bad DEI is for business, how the India based TAC is absolutely awful, and how we have way too many layers of useless management and how none of our customers give a cr-p about ESG. Make sure you don't do your check ins and let your manager know that it is a stupid tool.

That oughta do it.

Amazed that no one is talking about the fact that most of the SBG marketing team is all ex-VMWare. It is a clique. When the LRs happen there, all the non VMWare people will wear the targets.

Can I volunteer for LR? / Is there going to be an option to volunteer?

Sure. Just ask really tough questions of your management, upper management, or the ELT in group meetings. Question their judgement. Be professional, but blunt, and you'll get on the list. :-)

Wonder if they will offer retirement packages globally like a few years ago...

Very doubtful. It costs them more in severance and benefits than it does to just target the older people w/ the justification of their "too expensive" and let a few token younger people go to offset/lower the ave age and then hire new younger employees to replace the sacrificial lambs and the old folks.

... I bet a lot of us are applying but not getting any interviews or offers. We stay here because we have no choice. That's the reality

Some of us stay here because we like the lack of stress, good work/life balance, better than ave benefits, RSUs, and we know enough people throughout the company that we can get tasks done easily whereas newer hires have to struggle w/ the process and find the right people to coordinate with. I've seen people leave, and then come right back after seeing how bad other companies are in their own way.

It would be best that Cisco offers ER again. This will be win-win for the management and employees, If the management is afraid of losing key people, then the company can let the management review and approve the applications.

Letting management review and deny applications would be a bad idea. If you deny someone the ability to take early retirement, you:

  1. pi-s them off and make them not want to perform as well as they had been
  2. cost you more as you'll now have to give them large amounts of RSUs or other retention bonuses to make up for the fact that you just denied them the ER package benefits.
  3. will end up having to hire someone to take their job suddenly when they up and quit after finding a new job and now it's on their schedule and not Cisco's.

I don't see how that's a win win. It's only win win if you don't deny any ER applications.

What's happening at AppDynamics?
Is there going to be a sizable layoff?
Is this related to the Splunk acquisition?

I am tired of hearing about the CX team. Soo many posts about them. If it's that bad and you are in it, why don't you just leave? Wait - coz you have no skills outside of Cisco

The whole CX should be chopped. Anyway no work happening in last 3 months in Cisco and all CX employees burning Cisco money. ELT and Liz need not have to struggle to revamp CX it is dead and there will be no revenue. Previous leadership tried hard to build the CX but market does not want it.

There was a time that having Cisco on your resume' was a plus. Hate to say it, but those days are completely gone now... You have to spin-baby-spin your Cisco experience now and explain why you stayed here so long. As they say -- "it's not a good look".

ER does not save enough money as compared to a LR. Hence no ER.

Do you really think people here can get a job anytime they want? If they could have they would have left a long time ago. I bet a lot of us are applying but not getting any interviews or offers. We stay here because we have no choice. That's the reality

“Wonder if they will offer retirement packages globally like a few years ago...”
If they did half the company would apply. Cisco is not a youthful company, have a look around, half of people are over 45. They’d all happily accept a package and either retire early or be working at another company - probably a competitor - by Monday. That’s why they won’t do it, it’ll be the best people that they’d lose.

Get rid of low performing organizations. The LR list from inept management is fake and based on favoritism not talent.

If they don’t eliminate some of the CX VP’s, in this next round, there is no hope.

I thought I would retire with Cisco. Got hired in 2015 and LR Feb 2024. I had no idea when I started that LRs were a way of life at Cisco. So sad that its evolving from Cisco to Splunk 2.0.

Splunk employees safe for 3 years and all Cisco employees sent to the wolves.

Obviously the new leaders for Sales & CX are going to get rid of people. In Sales, you have the old Splunk CEO taking over, and I'd expect he'd install his preferred leaders and make sweeping changes across the org. Ol' Liz has been obsessively looking at CX costs; guaranteed there will impact.

All orgs are being asked about managing low performers.

Reading the tea leaves, Chuck will certainly announce an LR during earnings. Not sure how many - probably the usual 4-6%

Amen. "Change is the ONLY constant", Gospel of the SE Supreme Leader, UKI. As long as the UKI VP, SSED and MD remain unchanged. DEI galore. Diversity only and no efficiency. Get themselves on TV on company money and layoff ICs to save money. Hallelujah.
