Thread regarding Anthem Inc. layoffs

In Office Days going to 3?

The rumor mill is flying about the upcoming RIF on 8/8 that the 1 day in office requirement will be changing to 3. Anyone have details if this is true?

WFH to hybrid along with other tactics are being used to make employees so angry they will either quit and go work somewhere else or they will retire earlier than planned. We had three employees 'early' retire from our department because they couldn't take the madness from leadership anymore. It is a cost cutting measure for the company since the vacated positions are not being filled and the company gets out of paying supplemental pay by laying people off to reduce staff.

Because they want you to quit, then they won’t have to pay severance.

@5cgx+1tG6Cadh Because they aren’t seeing enough associates leave due to the current hybrid policy or not adhering so they can put them on written warning and manage them out.

I don't understand the going to 3 days a week in the office. Money is almost always at the root of decisions similar to this. Has moving from WAH to 1 day a week saved them money? There are already multiple ways to monitor WAH staff, so how do you quantify the benefits of 1 day a week, and the additional savings of going to 3 days a week?

From someone that already has a 40+ mile commute one way to a PulsePoint location that was originally hired 100% remote and salary was negotiated accordingly, does this company actually think forcing me to make this drive three days a week is going to get me to promote this company in the local community and give even more hours doing 'volunteer' work in the community? How stupid are they????

The pay & benefits are not the best in this industry. Are you kidding me? Humana’s benefits were better. More time off, more retirement match, & insurance costs very similar. Humana also paid for all of my licenses & re-certifications. Tuition reimbursement was simple as well. Anthem is hard to do business with as an employee & as a provider. And yes I’m looking for a different job already. This place is unreal. They allow toxic leaders to destroy departments, it’s really sad.

Question: Where are they going to fit everyone

Answer: There will be so more space once 10-15% of us are RIF'd and another 5-10% of us leave of our own accord!

We heard in ATL the food will go from 100% subsidiary to 80/90% subsidiary by Jan 2025

"Now they're eliminating that, as well as changing AIP (not in our favor)"

First I've heard of this -- care to explain what's changing with AIP?

I think where Elevance wins the day is in benefits. I've received several more lucrative offers during my time here, but none of the companies could touch the time off policy, the ability to inexpensively increase life insurance (not to mention spouse/child coverage), bonus, and in several cases the cost of health plan.

What the company has also had going for it for the past four years is remaining nearly fully remote. I and many others I know have stayed for that, because even though we could find jobs that paid more at base, the offset with QOL reduction by commuting didn't make sense.

Now they're eliminating that, as well as changing AIP (not in our favor), so I can only speculate that they're limiting to a lower but still shocking headcount reduction hoping they'll hemorrhage even more between QOL, messing with bonuses, and just general unease due to these frequent mass layoffs, because other wise it makes no sense.

Do you really think elevance paid well? I just got hired at $40k more. If you stick with a bcbs company, yes, they low ball you, but outside the major insurance players, pay is up.

That's my question; the footprint has been reduced so much that even with one day a week, my office is at least at 80% on any given day, including Fridays.

Oh wait, I guess they'll just waste more millions creating new workspaces after spending millions to eliminate them. Sounds about right.

I've always thought the 1x/week mandate was a trial run for 3x/week and eventually 5 days again. I expected us to go to 3 days by the 3rd quarter, so they're running a little late.

I guess it's better than not having a job, but considering how draconian they're getting about it, it's obviously another way to force attrition.

Good planning on their part, though - eliminate 12% of the workforce, overloading the remaining teams with work, force attrition through writeups/terms, and for the remaining, watch productivity plummet as people are now factoring commutes into their workdays again, and taking time off to deal with personal stuff vs working from home. (For example, managing work crews at one's home while working, vs just taking those days off.) Super smart thinking, good job Gail.

There are more cafeteria style seating then actual desks at my pulsepoint. How are they going to fit everyone?

@twv+1tG6Cadh I took your comment to be a sarcastic swipe at going to 3 days a week. You get free lunch? Nice, but still…

All you people worried about going in the office you should be more worried about keeping your job. I was one of the people that was RIF on Feb. 9th. I can tell you there are not allot of jobs out there that pay like Anthem/ Elevance does. Just saying ! Good luck all!

You can't seriously believe they're going to keep offering free food in office once it's a three day a week mandate, can you? Because I can tell you that is going to go away immediately. I'm surprised it already hasn't.

@twv+1tG6Cadh Costs to do not balance out. You're only factor is Gas, not wear and tear on your vehicle nor the time lost for commuting. Or for those who have downsized to one vehicle since they were allegedly classified asa 100% OPW for say the last 15 years... A person like that might have to go out and buy a 2nd car to make 3 days a week in the office work. That's not a free lunch, that's a carrot and stick... with more stick and less carrot.

For 3 days a week in office, will we get assigned seating or am I going to have to haul all of this cr-p back and forth to the office forever? We have no cafeteria. The building doesn't even have vending machines.

I don’t understand your math about the costs balancing out. Free Lunch? What? I figure I will spend approximately 30% more monetarily if I have to go back to the office more than a day a week. This does not figure in losing 2-3 hours of my day in commute round trip. The costs of maintaining a business professional appearance is significant. I also negotiated my salary based on 0 days in the office. For me at least the cost of going into the office more than a day a week would not be worth keeping this job.

It balances out. My gasoline costs will go up, but my food costs will go down. 3 free lunches a week vs. 1 now. Who says there’s no such thing as a free lunch?
