Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

Am I missing something?

The following is from today's Evernorth Pharmacy Benefit Services & Pharmacy+ Technology Newsletter:

”And it's been GREAT to see you all back in the office. I can't count how many times I've reconnected with one of you in the office; it's great to catch up and hear how things are going in each other's work and personal lives. That is personally gratifying to me and, in the end, that's what it is all about... creating and fostering relationships that we can count on when the going gets tough! Thank you all for making a huge effort to reconnect with your colleagues across our locations. It really does make a difference.”

Am I a severe outlier? I haven't done any of that since I was forced back in. I communicate more with the security guard (and that's not much) than I do with anyone else in the building.

How strong are these relationships if you didn't catch up at all during the pandemic, instead waited years for a happenstance encounter?

I count on my family and real-world friends when the going gets tough. Coworkers are way down on the list.

Sure. But at the VP level, you gotta know your audience better than that and have enough awareness to understand that many are not seeing it the same way.

Just to play Devil's advocate - maybe this isn't intentional gaslighting. There's a pretty good chance the people posting things like this are high up the chain of command and, therefor, have subordinates su-king up trying to keep their jobs. What's the point of being a VP or C-suit if you don't have peons surrounding you, kissing your a-s, and licking your boots? I can totally see why they'd enjoy it.

Same, I delete all these emails. I’m not going to be gaslit into thinking this is the best thing that has happened and that I have to be happy with commuting to an office when I can do exactly the same job seating at my house.

I agree 100%. It makes me actively miserable any time I'm exposed to positive propaganda about how great the in-office environment is, the wonderful socializing, collaboration, and relationship building is.

I'm sure that the VP who originally posted on this is having a very different experience than you or I.

Same here. I say hello and goodnight to security / custodial staff but literally nothing to anyone else. I haven't seen any of my team mates because I'm the only one required to be in the office. Being around hundreds of people and interacting with none of them makes me feel lonelier than when I was WFH.

No. You are not alone. I greet the building security and the janitor more frequently than anyone else. I work/collaborate with nobody in this building. Have no business partners located here, but by golly I am here. HATE IT
