Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

Burnt Out

Am I the only one here that has saved all of my PTO over the last year or so because of layoffs? I don't want to use it because I'm saving all of my money and therefor can't afford to go anywhere nice. Also, a layoff feels imminent, so I'm wanting them to pay all of my PTO out. I'm looking for another job now (and have been for months) and will want them to pay my PTO out if I get one as well for an extra cushion in an unsure climate.

Man, I'm exhausted. Pretty much hate this company and want it to burn right now. "Summer of Vitality" indeed!

I’m burnt to a crisp. So crispy I could hang out with Snoop Dogg. I’m actually taking my PTO, it just doesn’t help. Everyone I talk with regardless of where they are in the company, is burnt out. It’s the spiraling culture of the last 5 or so years that led us to all these layoffs and FOW. The ELT cares about profits and only profits. Take the PTO and take care of yourself.

You’re an adult who can’t think of any free or low cost activities besides staring at a wall at home? Go for a walk or hike, get books from the library, have a park day with a picnic brought from home, the list goes on.

Like I've said, staring at a wall at home will not fix my burnout. When my department might be laid off at any minute, I need to save all of my money and not spend it traveling or going out. Trying to get a year or two of bill payments saved up because the job market is so terrible, it may take that long.

PTO is taxed at 22% as supplemental income. If you are already in the 22%+ tax bracket then you wouldn’t notice, but if someone were in a much lower tax bracket, the PTO payout would seem a lot less since it’s taxed higher. In some states, companies are not required to offer PTO or pay it out upon you leaving the company. Just depends on your salary and state you live in. Plus, you can only rollover so much each year. Don’t lose your PTO!

State laws dictate how much PTO is allowed to be carried over, so it depends on where you live. Cigna cannot reduce to below what your residence state allows.

A friend of mine quit about a year ago with a hefty amount of PTO in the bank and it was paid out at 75%. They contacted HR and were told some BS about state law and whatnot. They dropped it because they didn’t want to get a lawyer. I wouldn’t count on it getting paid out at 100% at first. I certainly don’t which is why I use my PTO

What do you mean by "pays out at less than the rate it should"? I thought it was paid at the rate of my salary, assuming a 40 hour work week.

I use it because not enough rolls over and if you get laid off it pays out at less than the rate it should. Using PTO isn’t going to solve burnout though. Looks like you are onto the only solution…finding a job at an employer that treats its employees like humans not capital to be disposed of for short term profit. Nah, I'd just be more stressed because I wouldn't have backup money. The extra money in my bank account is the main thing that's keeping me mentally stable and not freaking completely out. Taking time off to just sit at home doesn't help me much.

Starting to feel like an inmate, though. I hardly go out or do anything; just been saving everything I possibly can for the obvious impending layoff.
