Thread regarding Ford layoffs

So what's with the flip flops / gym shorts / yoga pants dress code that's being more and more common on campus?

I mean, really?

BINGO.... I can provide value or I can sit in mandatory meetings and update rally. I get paid for 8 hours of my day, its up to the company how i spend those hours. No more of my time unless its on the company's dime.

Who knew you’d find the mean-girl fashion police at a truck company.

@4wgs+1tBexiLU the issue with this is you can literally wear anything to the beach.
you can wear a suit and tie.
you can wear jeans and shoes and a t-shirt.

nobody is stopping you from doing so.
which just goes to show how completely arbitrary this whole "pRoFeSsIoNaL" attire is.
back then Jeans and a shirt aren't "aPpRroPriAtE" attire for an office.

now its standard for tech companies.

its the same song since the dawn of time.
"things ain't what they used to"

the greeks said that about their predecessors
and basically every civlization has said the same thing about its predecessors.

now boomers are saying the same thing.

such is life.

If u can wear it at the beach-it's not appropriate
If u can wear it to a wedding-it's not appropriate
If u can wear it at a nice bar-it's appropriate
If u can wear it to church-it's appropriate
If u can wear it to your son or daughter's recital-it's appropriate
If u can wear it to cut your grass-probably not appropriate
If u can wear it on a casual date-it's appropriate
If you're posing for pictures for the company, dress up a bit!

Clothes do not increase productivity, but it does give customers a glimpse of our company.

@3uta+1tBexiLU. Nobody cares how IT workers dress. Whatever standards or lack of standards they want to follow in India or other LCC is fine.

I vote this as the most trivial and petty topic I’ve seen here in a while. I used to come in here seeking unique and thoughtful perspectives on the state of the company. This takes the cake. This place has gone off the rails.

@3lbb+1tBexiLU if you read closely.
It's you guys who are yapping about "professional" attire lmao.

So take your own advice maybe?

Never heard anybody complain about that except boomers.

But this phenomenon is cyclical and has been occurring throughout human history.

I'm sure we "YoUnGStERs" will complain about people going to work na--d in the future maybe.

All I'm getting at is this idea of "pRoFesIoNaL" attire is outdated.

Just dress decent. That's it.
In IT you really don't need to dress sharp.

You just need to get your sh-t done.
Of course I'm limiting the scope to this broad generalization to IT.

I do not know anything about other industries?

"Boomer thing" is such a tired trope used by lazy, clueless youngsters. Just remember that us boomers were the ones who made this company great. We are the ones who put in the long hours and made sure that things got done. The millennials and gen-whatevers are the ones who spend most of their time whining about what they dont have or that life is unfair. My suggestion is to shut your yap, take a look around and pay attention to history. You may notice that the world does not revolve around you and your unrealistic expectations.

My guess is it's probably a boomer thing.

Really the idea of professional work attire especially in Tech is basically dead.

Just show up and do the job
No one cares what you wear.

That mentality Is slowly creeping to other areas as well.

Honestly tho. I rather interact with someone dressed casually than some "professional" looking psychopath.

Most people who dress up at work.
I've noticed are the ones you should be avoiding. At least in IT

@1pwg Because it has to do with professionalism. How would you feel if you went to your doctor and he is dressed like cheech and chong? Or how about if you talk to and engineer and they are wearing flip flops? Or an accountant and they are wearing a halter top? There was a PM in IT who used to dress like she was going to the club after work (except she wasnt wearing any shoes in the office). I was told by her that if I mentioned her attire one more time, she was going to file a harassment complaint. The bar for work dress is so low now that its embarrassing.

What people wear is an action that you are judged on. Sorry, if you don't like that reality.

Judge people by their actions, not what they wear.

Generally appropriate atire for work shows respect for your environment and those around you.
For those who think it is a “boomer” hangup to suggest this, it is indicative of your overwrought ego and immaturity in a professional occupation.

Why do you care? Why does what someone is wearing have any bearing on you whatsoever? Worry about yourself, boomer.

@zcj+1tBexiLU this was the case in real meetings too, though. lot of people just sitting around. not even bothering to take notes. just burning up an hour or two. beats workin', i guess? of course they may have been required meetings, in which case it is the person making them required who is to blame. "it's a really important meeting. we're getting graded on it."

@siv+1tBexiLU just a comment, nobody was complaining about remote work except the office kiss... / brown noser. They were whining because they had to start producing something f for the first time in their career and also could not rake credit for other's work.

I remembe last year having seen a HR supervisor wearing a short skirt (above the knees), and mule (shoes). As a woman, i didn't appreciate this. It was pretty the sort of fashion close to what women wear on reality tv shows. An example to follow...

During Euro this year, a few of us decided to “work from home” and watch the games at a local pub. One of the guys made a comment about how we wore nicer, or at least cleaner, clothes for the bar than we did at work.

Leadership (LL4+) does not care about the working level anymore. They only care about the level above them. When the culture that once “was” is now destroyed: expect to see much more peculiar behavior. There is little interest in coaching and developing employees.

@wne+1tBexiLU and what are you producing sitting on webex meetings pretending to work? I see webex meetings with 30+ people and only 3 are interacting / taking notes / talking / contributing. the rest just multitasking and half paying attention.

and it's not just any LL6 and 5's that are not in 3 days a week. its GSR and upper management. you think you know something. you're too ignorant to talk

Post ID: @zcj+1tBexiLU

Because it's pretty pointless to have to drive into an office to just log on and sit in Webex meetings all day when you can do that at home. It's a low key message to leadership on how ridiculous the whole game they are playing is. When you're not on webex you are just desperately trying to get your work done. Those wandering around grabbing or dressed up like a fashion show are the truly worthless employees that should be thrifted as they have nothing really to do. They are just hanging out looking for FaceTime opportunities.

Most LL6's and LL5's are still not 3 days a week on-site. It's a fashion free-for-all.
