Thread regarding Optum layoffs

I'm so tired of all of this

We're supposed to go to work today and act as if nothing has happened. Just continue on with our jobs when so many of our coworkers have been kicked out without a second thought and knowing that in the next round, it could be us. They really see us as robots and not people, don't they?

Agree with most of the replies and the original post contents. Leaders in ETIPS and ITSS are the lack even the basic fundamental job skills, let alone human skills, and prioritize personal friendships over professionalism. Condescension and demoralization are their primary skill sets while smiling to your face. This is the Optum IT way.

@wng+1tAzEtxQ Your post just described the majority of the offshore IT group, they can’t seem to get much done as individuals and collaborate on most things and still there is much rework!
@TRUTH, as 40 others have acknowledged you nailed it, this is a sh-t hole to work at if you’re not “in” at lvl 31 or above! I tell people don’t even apply unless you are desperate or this is your first job, early career. They don’t seem to mind the turnover so learn something for a couple of years and then go to a company with a technical career path. But stay here as a technician and you will stagnate, stay here long like I did and skills atrophy. At least the ever present qtrly profits and the layoffs have gotten the stock price back up! Sorry for all that lost their jobs largely due to the mismanagement of a highly profitable company, life does go on.

It is the hunger games better them than you. Now if you were in the protected class dir or above never did a lick of work during your entire tenure that is a different story.

No, you're not important! Professional responsibilities should be handled independently and efficiently, without relying too heavily on personal connections.

In the workplace, it is important to be able to perform one's job duties effectively and independently. Relying too much on a best friend or personal relationship for support or assistance can be detrimental to one's professional growth and performance. It is important to be able to stand on one's own two feet and take ownership of one's responsibilities.

If someone is unable to do their job without the help of their bestie, it may be a sign that they need to reevaluate their skills and capabilities. It is important to be self-sufficient and capable in the workplace, as relying too heavily on others can hinder one's own development and success.

Welcome to Optum you aren't here to make friends, just do your work, or turn your computer off and head for the door.

Oh the union solution seriously must never have been in one. Offshoring will accelerate with that nonsense. And now you have AI to worry about too

Stop being so melodramatic. Grow up. And if you think unions are the answer then you just want to be sc--wed over by somebody's stupider.

This is a “layoff joint” and it’s best to know this so you’re not surprised. The growth is mostly inorganic (layoffs, AI, offshoring, M/A…) which means that for the company to financially succeed it needs to do these awful things to us employees rather than organic growth (new clients, better rates on existing clients). Medicare Advantage cuts and the cyberattack lower rates and many clients have gone elsewhere. The high stock price reflects inorganic, not organic, growth.

This is a decent place to work as a newbie, sort of the tech or clinical equivalent of McDonalds. After skill acquisition, it’s best to just leave and go to a place where employees are respected and have a chance. That is NOT the Optum way. Also, if you work at this place, save 20 percent of your post tax income (yes, very hard to do - duh.) But when your day comes with the 15 minute teams invite for Business Update, you will be better positioned to get a better job. Money in the bank is security; Optum is a pit stop on the highway of one’s career. Recognize this and your expectations and resulting emotions will be more in line with reality, not hope or fear.
