After being RIFd how do you send back the equipment? Do they have UPS come get it? Do you have to pack it up and take it somewhere? After being RIFd I doubt anyone is gonna want to put in any such effort so send an equipment picker upper to the homes bahaha.

Not anymore. Now you get a QR code or similar and have to haul it to a UPS store where they scan and package it, and it's a pain in the a-s, especially when the person at the UPS store isn't familiar with the process.
It was a nightmare at Humana as well. No organization. They only wanted certain equipment back & the rest I was left to get rid of. It was not an easy process but I had to do it otherwise they considered it stolen property basically if it was not returned.
Just put your equipment out on the curb, someone will pick it up...
You'll get a box and label. Pretty easy. If you don't then someone didn't do their job.
In our group we’ve had a few not return their laptops after they quit (we have some real micro managers). Months later, one people manager said to me, xyz never returned their laptop. No one did anything about it. I looked up my really told Dell Machine, it has a value of $172. It’s old junk. They are welcome to send me packing materials, a label and schedule a pickup for it and I will return it. Otherwise work performed after RIF is subject to my hourly freelance rate.
Actually this is a good question. IT didn't send me my return info even though I reached out to HR several times. There was a step that my manager was supposed to do and he hadn't done that step. It was stressful because returning equipment was a condition of severance. Also there was a mixup on what equipment I had to return and IT kept hounding me for equipment I didn't have (even though it took a couple weeks to get the return info in the first place). It was unnecessary stress on top of the stress of losing my job
Not to be rude but you are worried about sending them their laptop back? I’m worried about paying the mortgage
IT will send you a return prepaid label for UPS. You have a short window in which to send this back...I believe it is 5 days.
