Thread regarding Anthem Inc. layoffs

No job cares about you!

No job cares about you, especially Anthem/Elevance which is publicly traded. They only care about profits and they do not care about your: years of service, education and degrees, how many hours you worked overtime, how many weekends you worked, or if you take your PTO or not, if you die on the job or if you are sick. They do not care about you. Will there be RIFs, YES, they will always be RIFs because every quarter the company needs to make profits for who they really care about and that is the investors who are the 1%, people who invest in hedge funds, family offices, the super rich! Super rich that just need to get richer. So give that you know this, I will tell you how to survive in the corporate worls. I was at Athem 4 years and I worked in the most unfair, toxic work environment with my boss literally selling real estate while she should have been working and when she did work, she had her brown nose favorites who made her look good to the hire ups. No Manager cares about how hard you work only if you can make their miserable lives a little better and make them look good on paper. This is why you have managers and team lead who you would not trust to lead a flock of turkeys. What I did in my 4 years is I took advantage of the Employee stock purchase plan, I took courses towards my Masters degree paid for by Anthem, I took full 401K saving and took advantage of the match. I went to the doctors for preventative and took full advantage of all my benefits. I played their stupid game and shut up and did my job but I always took my PTO and never stayed 1 minute late. I was in such a toxic environment I left and before I did I had a lot of proof that my boss was abusive and Ethics does absolutely nothing as I knew they would not help me at all but after 4 years I saved $250,000 in 401 K, stocks and other savings and I went on my vacations and I got my Masters degree paid for. So use them how they use you and that counts for every corporate job.

Being a number is perfectly ok, since that is what we are……the hypocrisy is the kicker here. Brag about family, work life balance, and how THEY make a difference in people’s lives, while the bottom line is all that matters…not people’s health, mental or physical. It’s all $$$$$, no matter how it is presented. AI should be cheaper in the long run, save money, right? So what it is reading your most personal info. ….. Think about that for a minute, and what it means FOREVER. ….. Present it as it is, a money making business.

I feel valued as an employee in my department. but this does not in any way make me feel more secure overall about the rif. I appreciate what I have and appreciate it for as long as I can. A rif would be devastating!

You rent, not own. You don’t even get a desk anymore - you rent one for the day. If you paint, change flooring … lighting, etc. in a rental property; then the owner kicks you out … you loose all the time and money you put into fixing up the rental. Corporations are no different … you are a renter. Staying late, working weekends, etc. is no different - short term wins … but the renter always comes out on top.

We are just a number on payroll from employer perspective...unless you perhaps work at a small business, where others really do care. Sad...but true!
