Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

It's a strange feeling to root for your own termination

It's like a perverse lottery, where the "winners" get to leave and escape the toxic environment, while the rest are left to wait for the next round.

The worst part is the waiting. It's a slow, agonizing torture.

It's a strange feeling to root for your own termination. But after months of living in this state of constant fear, being laid off starts to feel like a twisted kind of liberation.

The irony is that the company's actions have created a workforce that is desperate to leave. Morale is at an all-time low, and productivity is suffering as a result. People are just going through the motions, waiting for the axe to fall.

The waiting game is the worst part. It's like being trapped in a purgatory of uncertainty, where the only escape is to be laid off. It's a sad reality, but it's the truth. I just want this to be over.

This needed to be bumped up, @ldbd+1scWgyYR said it perfectly.

To the person who responded Quit- grow up. People aren’t lazy because the stress of waiting for the layoff is getting to them. This company has no loyalty to you- if you think otherwise you are dreaming. Some folks need that PTO payout and unemployment while job searching.

There are five stages in the cycle and you my friend have made it. Whatever you decide to do with your remaining employment whether it be to quit loudly, quietly, to set the cruise, or cash in that winning lottery ticket when your number is called- you are in control now.

When you have those second thoughts and you will. Remember those times while you were in Denial and that things were going to get better, that was just a facade and a mirage.

Reflect on the Anger you absorbed the pain the suffering watching those on their knees get promoted, those on their feet getting shown the door all the while the vigilant ones carried the load thinking if they just worked a little more, a little harder and a little smarter they would survive the quarterly and annual carnage.

Remember the Depression and anxiety that controlled and consumed you, it became a part of your daily dose. You were self-anointed a survivor you were on the verge of becoming indoctrinated then through all the blur, all the fog through all the smoke, your senses reemerged.

The clarity of your lived experience found your inner pillar of wisdom and truth. Be well my friend you made it, your freedom can no longer be revoked or rescinded . You have already won- your success is a testament to your remarkable resilience and resolve.

Godspeed.

Some things are out of your control, so why stress and worry whether leadership wants to cut the workforce.. Long gone are the days where there's loyalty. You provide a service and they pay you, give you benefits, and other perks...nothing more. If you don't like it, find a company without a termination at will clause.

The only thing that can keep you from leaving is if you would owe any money to the employer (such as tuition reimbursement). Otherwise, see what is out there. Or maybe take a look at other internal opportunities. It may just be that while your workgroup is not great, other workgroups are very cohesive and well treated.

Quit. Those of making this company work are sick of lazy people like you.

"Waiting for the axe to fall" is not the only option. You could be proactive by searching for another opportunity. Plan your own escape. I understand the reality of needing a job. We all have bills to pay, BUT I'm not going to just sit here and let them decide my destiny. The best time to look for a job is while you have one.

I realize others with more tenure may have more invested. Personally, I can't take this toxicity for much longer. Even if I don't get RIF'd, I'm looking to leave soon.

Must be new here after living the culture for 15 years you dont worry about it if its your day its your day. Why worry about what you cannot control. I am a hired g-n and just live for the day. If an opportunity lands in my lap I would drop this like a hot rock. Optum is an acquired taste for sure

The cr-ppy part is the severance su-ks so bad here.

Other companies who are notorious for layoffs at least give their layoffs a lovely parting gift.
