Thread regarding Lumen Technologies layoffs

Wondering if.....

KJ even thinks about how many careers she has lay wasted to, good, experienced loyal employees that gave their all through many mergers, only to be sent packing for the almighty dollar , to try to pay mortgages and support families.....

I was RIF'd back in November, 58 years old. worked at Lumen for 8 years. 35 years in telecom. For the first time in my life I had to apply for food stamps! Thanks Kate!

Quoting post
"I agree, ageism is 100% alive and well at Lumen!
And nobody calls you for an interview after your RIF'd either because of ageism.
How ironic in this day and age of calling everyone a racist (when they are not) ... that a real problem is ageism ... you won't find a single chapter in DTL protecting those who are older."

That's not true. I was with the company for 16 years, I was fired in RIF and in my 60's but my skill-set landed me a new job in just one week. Pocketed the payout and now work for a better place making 30% more salary. It's true those without skillset will be done but the rest will be just fine. Many in the RIF was because someone did not like the person, that's the culture inside Lumen.

I don't blame Kate. I cannot understand why anyone would want to board this sinking ship. I know that many people poured their heart and soul into this company. It's a shame that it's been led by the clueless for quite some time. Anyone who thinks there's a turnaround is delusional. Time to don your Lifejacket and jump.

Right. Can't really blame KJ for taking on the big mess Level3 incompetence brought in. KJ can save the Lumen brand and save share price, but KJ is only about 50% the way there. KJ needs to do more RIF and unload all of the low profit services and consulting. The KJ core business is still telecom in Quantum Fiber and Exaswitch. Lumen needs to go back to a carrier class business. KJ will likely burn a ton of money trying to integrate using AI. Lumen is not poised to succeed in integrating AI so late in the game because competitors have been using AI for a long time now and trying to play catchup simply won't work out good on the money books. Shareholders want their return for the risks.

Kate Johnson does not care. And don't believe her when she tells you she does.

Reality is why would she care corporations are always about themselves

Layoffs are happening all over USA and all industries.

Prayers up for everyone to be able to pay their bills for shelter and food. These are life altering events especially for the older folks where ageism is real. I have heard with my own ears hiring manager disqualify someone on age.

She could care less I mean kxxe .. not one leader ever figured out how to merge successfully 4 companies .. all back end systems never merged .. all sales depend upon which network your selling .. and oh what legacy system do we use to impleythat hmmm .. it’s always been the problem on my humble opinion..and all the people that had any key legacy knowledge are gone .. so this place is doomed

“They are cooking the books to look good”
Would you expect anything less from leadership who started this “ Reset ” by openly saying that they are going to restore profitability by innovating Disruption!! That Doesn’t exactly give one a sense of smooth sailing ahead!

Maybe there should be an investigation by an external audit company to discover who was falsifying their time sheets by booking time to non-assigned customer accounts over past couple of years, just to appear busy by management. Maybe then KJ starts to clean house.

No. If she did how would she fund DTL?

The company is so messed up now, it's hard to get anything done. The budgets are horrible. No one left to do the work.

The answer to your question is: “No.”

The corollary to your question is: “Does she care?”

The answer to that question is also: “No.”

Take the history of the big companies, US West, Qwest, Level3, Global Crossing, Time Warner Telecom and CenturyTel. What do they have in common? They were all failing companies, be that the dying POTS business or the commodities that fiber has become. Doesn’t matter who the CEO is nobody could make a go of it. Compare it to owning a video store, the industry changes. No one has yet been able to figure out how to make what is now Lumen profitable.
