Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

it's become a witch hunt

am i the only one noticing they are looking for any imperfection in your RTO or performance or specific hours you check in/out of the buildings? after they find something and talk to you about it, next they send you an email "officially" getting your acknowledgement that you were counseled about whatever it was. it doesn't take a genius to see they are trying to create black marks on your personnel record so they have "justification" to give less severance pay when the MSP is offered in a month or two.

Umm, those will be the first to be let go.
The non-threatening sycophants will be kept even though they can't do squat.

"comfy people who have pi----g their $$$ away on new toys & expensive houses are going to find out"
100% in agreement. You can find out who they are really quickly when they open their mouths. They are very entitled and very angry. A mountain of debt and job insecurity will do that to people.

"new college hires will be taking over their area"
This is the trend. Also, we will see management desperate to outsource and implement AI. It's cut or be cut; a race to the bottom. This isn't going to end well for any of us but the smart and well balanced among us will survive and will grow stronger. As to the angry, entitled people, it's going to be a very hard road into Hades. Shout-out to @1xeq+1sAGTvRl

Those people who got the CTT last year and/or staff engineers are pretty much sc--wed this year.

GM is already giving those stupid mental health meetings. The so called comfy people who have pi----g their $$$ away on new toys & expensive houses are going to find out how bad the economy is when they get cut.

From what I heard from my manager on Friday, the prospective new college hires will be taking over their area(I heard former tesla employees discussed very briefly as well).

That is not the best decision in the world, but it sounds like accounting wants to implement more cost cutting ideas for their end of year accomplishments.

If 10% are going to be let go, imagine how they will position the 'friends and family'.
We will see the worst people assigned to the most interesting projects.
We will see the 'friends and family' getting kudos for the work of others.
Middle managers will know exactly how to position these people so they are spared.

For everyone else... even if you know for certain that you are the biggest contributor, if you aren't cozy with the team and the manager, you'll be on the list. There's no certainty or security, which is why we often hear, "we lost some of our best people during the cut".
Lesson: I wouldn't assume anything about the lowest performers in your group -and- be careful what you wish for. The other lesson some of us have already learned: automotive turns into a s-show before, during and after a recession. If you aren't in the engineering function, you might start scanning monster, dice, indeed and linkedin.

Sounds like GM is going after $$$ savings as usual.

They did a great job eliminating the testers for engineering; we seen what a great impact that made on the quality of the vehicles coming off the lines with technical glitches…

Heard today that the staff systems engineers and anyone who received CTT last year will be fair game for workforce reductions(in other words, they won’t be protected from cuts).

@4nll+1stp2VDP is right.

Unfortunately, there is going to be some messed up metric of people GM is going to cut….

It might bigger coming up at end of this month, or, even nastier at the end of the year…or both….no one knows.

Regardless of what org you are in, unless you have a totem of immunity, only the normal favorites will be protected.

If your boss or HR is out to get you, they'll cook up a reason and you'll go whether it's legit or not.

Being a hardworking perfect employee won't help if you're old, highly paid, or get caught in some kind of political crossfire.

Haven't caught wind of RTO policing in my area, yet.

AI Surveillance, manufactured crises and your autonomy:

Remember what it felt like in March 2020 when the world suddenly changed? Imagine this: A global cyber attack that zeroes out all wealth digitally (at least for the plebs), followed by draconian laws that eliminate internet anonymity and your ability to use cash (because of the cyber attack!). Yes, it's ironic but they are going to force us into the very position of being entirely digital to combat digital vulnerability, coupled with all encompassing surveillance. Imagine the implications. This will happen in 2024 and there may not be a GM to work at. Your lives are about to change forever!

How do I know this? Just like the last event, the people that launched it, announced it ahead of time but few noticed or cared. Am I saying that C19 was a product launch? YES. So is Cyber Polygon 2024. Hidden in plain sight. They will call it something else when it happens but once it does, a series of manufactured crises will unfold.
