Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

How is it working at BPX?

Got an interview recently and they seemed super aggressive and eager to get me in the door. Something seemed a bit off though. I cannot place my finger on it. I've never had an E&P push to hire me so hard. I've got a weird feeling but I don't know why. Maybe its just me.

What am I walking into if I take this engineering role in Denver? Does anyone have any insights I can glean before accepting thus offer? I don't need the job. I'm already employed by a larger super major.

@Abrn I always find it interesting when people stay at companies they're not happy with. What's your reason?

The only people close to being rock stars here have left or gave up a while back. The good ones still here are jaded and not happy.

These wannabe rockstars think they are premier but they couldn't be further from it.

With the new mandatory relationship reporting I hope they get rid of a few here. Bpx needs to be rolled back in to big Bp.

Really glad I made this post and looked into bpx before taking taking the job.

I'm gonna pass. Thank you for the insights.

I agree with the statement below. I have witnessed someone in management that has been reported multiple times from direct reports to folks in other disciplines apparently for years. There has been no accountability taken by the individual or bp to make it right.

@3wdk+1sqnE0NQ There have been many complaints to open talk with no action taken, in cases where the complaints are leveled at senior leaders. I have absolutely no faith in opentalk.

If you’re a leader who has witnessed unethical behaviour then you should be going straight to opentalk about it. If you don’t then you are part of the problem.

I'm pretty sure everyone unhappy is looking for the door at a fast pace. Just look at all the people that have left over the last 24 months or so.

Not a complicated issue. Its a timing and location issue. People have been voting with their feet for a while now. I'd think you'd have noticed that. Apparently not.

Bp can't retain top talent. Its obvious and becoming more obvious over time. I'm not a youngster fresh out of school. I'm in leadership and I've been in the room when conversations were being had about potential promotions. Its not ethical what I've witnessed.

A lot of people are out first chance they get. I've had convos with multiple great and talented technical staff. Its worse than you think or know.

To the leaders who have sat in bars and gotten drunk while trashing other employees just know that you've been heard and word travels. You are a leader and you are not acting like it. You're immature.

Very unprofessional, arrogant, pompous, etc.

People will keep taking a lap at BP until they find a better thing. Its not hard. It just takes a bit of strategy, intentionality, and planning to make the move.

How much of the offer? Is it paid better than the other super major?

Sure we have our ego’s and personalities, what company doesn’t? But I don’t understand, if you people are so unhappy, why don’t you just leave? Why not find a place that deserves your caliber of perceived talent and self proclaimed unhappiness. Obviously you don’t belong here and those like me will be excited seeing you move on to a place where you (and we) are happier. Stop using your wit powered fingers here and use your feet at the exit, it’s easy to find.

You aren't a band member. You're just a groupie slurping at the troughs of nepotism or HR Kool-Aid. Either way, your comment is very mis-guided and short-sided.

If you are reading this thread I'd highly encourage you to ignore their comment.

The friends and family connections run way too deep here and they are overwhelmingly obvious after you've been here about 18 months or so. The wrong people get promoted (for the most part). Whatever you do don't go to Denver. Stay the he-l away. There is a small handful of good people left here.

Lots of E&Ps are hiring. Go there instead. I'm out first chance I get. Didn't take me long to see how bad it is here.

Ask them how many people have left their team and company in the last 12 to 18 months? A whole lot. There's a reason. You should probably ask bp/bpx why?

Watch them make up something.

This place is ok to get your foot through the door of the Industry. If you are a new hire right out of university then go for it but don't stay longer than 2 years. You won't grow. No upward advancement opportunities are here unless you are connected to a chosen few.

Be ready for people to be territorial with their work and steal your ideas. Don't expect pay and benefits to keep pace with industry standards.

Ask them about turnover rate in Reservoir Engineering, Geo, IT, HR, and Family/Friend/Frat/Sorority/Sandridge connections. Google some key last names. You'll connect a lot of dots.

CEO, CFO, Global CEO all recently left or were removed/walked out by police. Look into it. Trust me. Do your homework. You may think you can avoid this nonsense but it'll hit you at some point. If you do take the job just know what you're getting into and walk in with a mindset that its a stepping stone job to something better.

Hopefully, bp turns it around someday. If not then there's not much else to say.

"I love it here. If you are ready to work this is the place. If you like for others to do the work and you take the credit, stay where you are or go to work for big bp.

Here you must be a band member not a self absorbed rockstar."

This was written by one of the typical arrogant connected click members within the company. Many good people have left as a result of poor leadership, next level nepotism, and lack of career advancement opportunities. You'd do better to go elsewhere. Its bad here and getting worse all the time. Stay away from bp and bpx. They are no longer a respected company. Reach out to your network and ask around about this place. You'll hear a lot of things but the overarching theme will be that coming here is a bad choice. I'm about to leave myself. I'm a hard worker, team player, have a good attitude, and put in way more work than the cliques and I'm tired of them taking the credit. They will tell you you one thing and do another. Lots of back stabbing and poor company culture here. I regret coming over from where I was.

Lots of wannabe rockstars here. They are not premiere and your technical skills will dwindle here. Stay sharp and stear clear.
