If you’re an honorably discharged military veteran, make sure that you are enrolled in the VA Healthcare system. Contrary to what many thing, you don’t have to have service-connected disabilities or be retired to qualify. Depending on the area where you live, you can even use them as your primary care - and if you have insurance, they’ll bill against it. If you are laid off and your COBRA runs out, you can choose to just use VA as your healthcare provider and just make copays. Obviously, if you have dependents that aren’t military veterans themselves, it won’t cover them, but it’s a good option for you. I opted not to continue COBRA when my severance package ran out and VA has taken care of my physical, lab work, regular Rx, and even a teledoc weekend call for an ear infection, with Rx called into to CVS - no charge or copay.
You earned the benefits - use them…. Whether laid off or not.
