Thread regarding Avaya layoffs

Mini Avaya in the making

  1. Cut Once
  1. Cut Deeply
  1. Cut Quickly

That’s how Cisco, Microsoft, AWS, and proper corporations usually do this reductions.

But no, not AM, ML, ST, AO and crew. It’s not part of their DNA. They’re not really and seriously concerned about revenue, bookings, or the right product strategy. What really matters to them is to whom are we going to sell this empty shell of a company to: Zoom, Ring, Mitel etc… to cash in.

And that is concerning because now we have an extremely high level of stress and anxiety at Avaya. First, the selfish stress about whether my job is affected. Then personal circle stress. Then way out there general concerns about the company.

And guess what: when folks are stressed and gossiping, they are not effectively implementing or driving anything of value. Physiologically, they have increased cortisol and this will turn into general numbness and stillness.

These layoffs and headcount reductions are being done so poorly. From Germany, to US, to MEA, APAC, and LATAM. They’ve been executed not with science and facts, they’re being done with hate. AM deep inside despises Avaya, no matter how many times he describes it as an “iconic brand”. He hates this company because he only makes his millions when this brand disappears, either thru an acquisition or a fire sale.

One bit of advice that needs to be passed: don’t leave any HR 1:1 meeting without being absolutely satisfied you know everything you need to know and have everything to move forward. Because once you’re out of the door, for all assurances you’re going to get, you're done.

Thoughts? How are things at your office/ region/ territory?

Has anyone noticed that ST has n her really had any "REAL RESPONSIBLITY*?

She's always just been a special advisor/side consultant who acts like she has All of the Authority in the Avaya World yet Never has any Accountability.

How the he-ck does a person like this ever get a voice at a table about the future of Regions/Offices/Talent or Alliances? Anything she has touched was a failure, yet then each and every time, she slithers to the next new alpha power and emerges as if she was never involved?

That is all bad enough. But the absolute in-your-face arrogance and supreme-being attitude is what makes her absolutely useless for A ways hope of success.

As someone on her most astutely stated
I've never met anyone as smart as ST...

  • or at least that's what she tells me

Excellent post indeed, and brilliant comments and responses.

This mini avaya has been envisioned and tailored to fit the aspirations of a handful of people, namely AM,ST, and now ML in the hope they can sell the new version and cash in 10s of millions each. These 3 are either can out or are quickly approaching retirement. That’s how it feels, or at least I see it.

No one cares about the company, its customers or employees. No one, esp not mister DPTW.

"WTH?? What changed? Why the u-turn and change of heart? Did he conclude that he didn’t know what he was talking about?"

Nothing changed, this is AM's ""modus operandi". He talks the biggest game he can, he sell's clunker's as Porsches, he would sell the Brooklyn Bridge to his own mother. Everyone sees it and Avaya has zero trust at the top (anyone that says otherwise is just trying to keep their job). Take whatever he will say at Engage and divide it by 100. Tell me how this credibility issue will help Avaya win.

The post brings up 1 very important point.

Everything seems to be a priority for AM and his new leadership team of super stars apart from the most important element: the product/s we manufacture and sell.

Since October 2022, AM repeatedly on his all-hands calls described AXP as the North Star of the company. Whatever happened to that? On his latest all-hands, he said, word for word: AXP is suitable probably for mid market type customers.

WTH?? What changed? Why the u-turn and change of heart? Did he conclude that he didn’t know what he was talking about? Or has the North Star changed because he and his team discovered that they cannot make the numbers work? Or has this changed because they’re busy with meaningless acquisitions that will buy them a bit more time while they keep cashing their paychecks?

Between JC and AM regimes, there are several differences, however there is 1 staggering commonality: the obvious made up lies, fabrications, and deceit.

If you keep lying long enough, it becomes the truth.

1- We have liquidity and I don’t see a bankruptcy in our future? A lie

2- Open, honest, direct & transparent? Another lie.

3- Destination Place to Work? One more lie

4- AXP is our North Star? Another fabrication and time buying tactic

5- Lead with trust? No one trusts him no more or any of his leaders

6- We want to hear the voice of employees from across the business? then where are the results of the engagement and ethics survey…

7- Ethics and compliance is at the core of everything we do? Bull

As Abe Lincoln famously said: you can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time.

The billion dollar question is : when will this board of directors do something to right these wrongs…

I worked on that Wells Fargo deal a couple years ago. I had no idea she was the one that sc--wed things up for Avaya. That was the biggest deal for the company ever.

1000% agree, you can see it as soon as you talk to anyone that's not management, and even some of the lower level managers are starting to see the light though most of them still believe the dream.

Brilliantly stated.

Absolutely accurate. People like ST don't have an ounce of strategy. She has coat Avaya billions based on her ignorant arrogance.

She single handedly messed up Wells Fargo. And if Wells Fargo happened, Avaya would have never filed for BK.

And the reason the entire organization replied upon ONE failed deal is because she failed on 3 dozen deals prior.
