Why the heck are there so many people with VP or Director titles that only have 1, 2 or even no directs reporting to them? What exactly are they managing?

You need all those VPs to manage the bloated processes, that require a. p title to get anything moving
Managers with no or few directs
No biggie becaus

high-level titles = hi importance
low-level titles = lo importance
bottom line is peons are expendable and tens of thousands of peons still work at the company
Please understand we don’t require subordinates. It’s very difficult to manage me, myself and I.
Time for pre-meeting to get the three of us on the same page. Many times we aren’t even on the same book.
Being a VP is hard work, constantly arguing with oneself.
If you look up the folks with VP titles at oracle in the internal system and they are classified as IC5, these people just put the VP title in their title just because and is getting a sales rep salary. For example look up the Verizon OCI Sales Rep.
It’s a way to say “this person is pathetically incompetent but please believe otherwise.”
The title gives credence to customers or clients and puts them into a salary band otherwise not possible. Always been interesting, at one point there were 400+ Directors or VP's without any reports.....

That's the line where they cut
They even have vps reporting to vps.
Even with reporting they are anyways only managing BOSS's B-A-LL's. That's all you need @ ORCL
They laid off all ICs resulting in fake VP/Directors titles. It is only matter of time before they are let go.
