Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Layoffs today

I just heard there was another round of layoffs today. Approx 225 people, so far I only know of employees in ERC that were impacted. April 9th was the last one. They are getting becoming more frequent. Is this the new schedule? Two layoffs per month?

When I worked for a Fortune 100 company (a very large enterprise-level company), layoffs were constant. They had acquired the company "arm" I was at and there must have been a "protection clause" for the people in the original company because it seemed those who came after the acquisition were the ones subject to rolling layoffs. One day, I had the highest raise on the team. The next day, I was laid off. However, unlike USAA, they compensated per agreement and did not pull the phony PIP or ugly harassing behavior. It still stung; however, I was less angry at my treatment. They were also transitioning the work offshore (as much as possible) and sc--wing up royally because the offshore team was not trained adequately. Not only were they looking for "cheap" labor, but they were unwilling to invest in those poor souls. The result is that after a "waiting period", the original employee could re-enter because as we all know, a poorly done job requires more manpower to fix. GOL

So think of it as a revolving door with no intelligence and only greed motivating "leadership" action. The best approach I have taken through the years is to get as much experience and positive referrals from those you actually work with and skip the stress of corporate America's BS. The only loyalty to speak of is to yourself. Leave for a better opportunity (skills, title, bucks) the second it presents itself and keep good relationships going (in other words, be as phony as management and smart aleck employees who think that they will somehow be treated differently by kissing the proverbial you-know-what) because you will meet the same cast of characters further down the road. LOL

And never fear! Good IT salaries and opportunities will always present themselves in due time.
