I had a one/one meeting with my manager. In the meeting, he expressed his concerns about our current project. He said we don’t have time. He requested me to work harder otherwise the team will be in trouble. I am senior engineer in HCOL. I find this conversation unusual.

Yes , next 3 months are very critical. FOR YOU.
With a high sense of urgency update that resume and start looking for a new job. Don't waste a single extra minute on doing more than bare minimum work.
It is very simple. Public relations types this hash tag into a web search engine to keep track of WF's lackluster, low-quality, and most important - dishonest image and narrative. You can track everything. All it takes is a tag and it's on their radar. Open your eyes people, stop drinking the Kool Aid. It's spiked with laxatives.

More like the next 3 months is critical for WF itself, lol.. with all the bad decisions that have transpired.

How do you see a tag?
Your manager probably knows you did nothing prior to having this conversation and now expects you to get some work done. You likely thought you were beating the system and now it has caught up with you and your team. Be prepared to be let go soon.
Quiet quit while looking for another job. Doing that now along with many members of our team.
Your group likely targeted in that wave. Want work completed to minimize disruptions.
Bumping for awareness
You have a cr-p manager. These sh$tshow company executives already know exactly who they want to stay and who they want to go. It’s far past the point where any individual or manager has any direct influence.
Corporate is watching. See tag.
They've been inconsistently meeting marks and sc--wing employees over for a long time now in Technology. Unqualified managers with too much power and lack of accountability. Good luck.
Not really, assuming your manager is in the USA, they want them gone also. Everyone goes.
Hard work has nothing to do with your survival here at Wells Fargo. If your manager likes you, you will live. If your manager doesn't like you, you will die.
They do it to squeeze all the knowledge & productivity out of you before they dump you. Seen it in contractors & FTEs. Beware.
My manager did the same thing to me. She made me worked so hard, gave me countless of empty promises and eventually gave me inconsistent meets relating. Never trust your manager. LOB: Technology.
I've learned that Wells Fargo management has been consistently dishonest and non-transparent about everything. If you see any red flag, run!
My manager had told me something similar a few months ago. I worked harder and harder because I thought I could get promoted if I did a good job. But I got laid off. The bad part is that I was mentally burnt out and now having difficulty recovering from it. I kept questioning myself "what did I do wrong?" I thought I did a good job. It turned out that my hard work didn't mean anything and made no difference. So OP, DO NOT WORK HARD ANYMORE, FIND A NEW JOB AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
Do NOT work harder, and it's not out of rebellion.
If others on your team and/or other teams/processes are slowing down your team, YOU alone working harder is an inappropriate solution.
When the boss starts sharing how in trouble the team is, it's probably lights out soon.
Get your resume updated/polished, and start looking. Do a reasonable job at Wells until then.
Don't work harder, you will only get burned and chopped anyway. Do you want get laid off with PTSD, or prefer to start a better career somewhere else?
Run!! Your manager basically told you that you are on the chopping block. Dont work harder, take long lunches, start looking.
I’ll let you in on a secret, you won’t meet the bar regardless, because they are firing you and it’s imaginary
Whether you work harder or not the next 3 months are critical. First major change coming in March and then the following 2 months setup the rest of the year. This is going to be a rough period for those of us who make it and those of us who don’t.
The manager is setting you and your team to be let go. I'd be looking elsewhere for a role.
