Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

Re-hire job eliminated staff?

I have to ask has any areas where opportunities and open positions were posted that they actually even considered hiring/rehiring staff that were recently job eliminated due to consolidation? I know so many colleagues who were let go and I’m curious what their potential to get re-hired is coming back to the organization, if they so desired.

I was laid off in April, and after ten years was only given 18 weeks of severance… so my severance was going to end in September… I’ve been applying left and right to jobs inside Cigna and outside but all I’ve gotten were denials. The job market is terrible too. I finally got a job offer back at Cigna, and I’m taking it, but it’s substantially less than what I was just making there. I truly have no choice because my family depends on my pay as well. I could have taken my chances and let severance run out … but if I started unemployment pay then we would have been forced to leave our home as the pay is terrible on unemployment. So for the person asking why would you want to come back…. Unfortunately we sometimes have no choice. However, you better believe I will be looking for a better paying job daily!

I was let go last year, and I've completely lost trust in Cigna.

I still love my team and the people I met while there...
But if push came to shove, I wouldn't want to go back unless I was truly desperate.

Bruh, my entire department is overseas now. Ain't no way they're inviting me back until they suffer some tremendous losses on the tech sector.

On my team we just re-hired someone who had been let go last Fall and had been a matrix colleague. Bringing them on as a contractor due to headcount sensitivities but so excited to have that legacy history and knowledge re-join the team. I checked with their former manager first who was very happy to see them re-join the org.

Band 1 and Band 2 in contact center positions will take anybody they can get at this point, and they are hourly working overtime and many are still W@H. Whether you think that's worth 9-10 hours of micromanagement AND being screamed at by angry customers/patients is a choice all potential applicants will have to decide. For some it may be worth the pay, for others it's not.

If you’re rehired during your severance period, you lose your severance pay.

It’s best to find a job somewhere else and double dip for a while.

From personal experience I can say that you have every opportunity to come back after a layoff as long as your layoff wasn’t performance related. I was laid off last year due to our entire team no longer being needed. Then within the 30 day notice period I applied to internal roles and I got an offer from another team at Cigna making more money. This was for a band 3 role, not sure how it works for the other bands.

I have no proof but my guess is you are black listed for a while if you’re laid off. They blocked all of MA from applying to other non MA business units back in January. What’s to stop them from blocking rehires for layoffs

Right now there are very few positions in the USA, so unless you have moved to Ireland or Hyderabad chances are there are no roles for you. Unless you are Band 1 or 2 in customer service…hut Cigna has the opposite problem there. It is so terrible that they can’t keep workers.

Honestly Cigna is getting more toxic by the day so you’d be out of your mind to want to come back, unless you are desperate.

I’ve also heard that if you get laid off you’re on an unofficial list to not get rehired for at least 2 years. Maybe they are worried about someone getting rehired the lm getting revenge for being laid off in the first place.
