I recently got a letter from a subrogation company because Humana wants to be reimbursed for claims paid when I had $300,000 non-accident medical expenses last year. I was laid off in March 2024.

@1heb+1sYqQBAw If you do sue for malpractice you should instruct your lawyer to seek subrogation costs too. I have no problem with the insurance company being made whole but that should be paid by the group found liable. It sadly isn't that way so you get sc--wed again.
So that explanation seems to conclude there is no real purpose in suing for malpractice because if medical expenses are high enough, it will all just get taken by insurance. Got to love this country.
Wow thank you for the explanation
@ywl+1sYqQBAw If you were to undergo a procedure which went wrong... Maybe malpractice or faulty device, you can make a claim. The Insurance company then gets the right to come after YOU to reimburse them for the money they spent on your care. That would be a None Accident claim. Given the cost of health care at this time the insurance company could take a serious chunk of your money to cover their costs. However. In some states the Insurance company may be required to pay some of the legal costs you incurred to make your claim.
Was it $300,000 in bills or a settlement? Any payouts that were made, if you got a settlement, than the insurance company can look for repayment
This makes zero sense. Non accident claim??? Did you make a typo?
Seems like a good time to move.
Subrogation is due for all medical settlements where your insurance has paid for claims. There are certain rules and processes which they follow but they will go after any settlement you received. When you get a lien notice you WILL have to pay them or you won't get your claim. Some subrogation services are more aggressive than others, Humana uses an aggressive company.
I had a similar situation after I left, and it was billing errors that had to be resubmitted. But I thought subrogation department only dealt with the medical bills, and non medical bills were through your car insurance? And non accident through Humana?
You should get an attorney or they will go for your settlement.
Were these claims after you were laid off?
