Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Don't Take It So Seriously

The stress, the effort, the going above and beyond means nothing to this company. If you are an exclusive agent or onshore employee the decisions have already been made regardless of what you do. No amount of extra effort and extra work you do will change it. It is not respected and it is not appreciated. It is not worth going 100% for. Clock in, do what you have to, and clock out. Enjoy your wife, your kids, your friends, and your life. This company is not worth spending your extra time on as they don't care about you or your career. My wife and kids are better off for my change in mindset. You are better and more important than this company so don't let it worry or consume you. God Bless!

@mpq+1sS8G4js "Put the effort into the job that equates with the respect and compensation the company gives you."

Excellent Suggestion! Exactly what I do. And these fools wonder why I dare only put in an actual 2 hours of work per 8 hour shift and simply don't give a f&&&.

These mo--nic and inept leaders actually think we should be giving 100% 8 hours a day for being disrespected, demoralized, grossly underpaid, and eventually outsourced. Not a chance in He-l.

I would give this advice for any large, multi national company.

Despite all the 'we are One Allstate' family rhetoric, what 'we' are are widgets. Numbers. If there is a cheaper group of widgets to be purchased at lower price this company doesn't waste a nanosecond making a decision about their 'One Allstate family' members-you're history.

Smear over the top of that the nice thick layer of persona/corporate politics and boot licking that is embedded in the culture and it's best to keep what's really important in front of you. And they are every day when you finish work.

I’d give the same advice to anyone in claims, operations, or UW. The extra effort quite honestly isn’t worth the stress. It won’t be noticed or compensated. Quite frankly, there’s a pretty low bar to clear for performance. They’ve demonstrated year after year that high performers mean nothing in the long run. Put the effort into the job that equates with the respect and compensation the company gives you.

There are other companies you can work for too - Allstate does not care about you, but there are other companies that do and will appreciate engaged employees.

That said, OP is absolutely right if you’re staying at Allstate. Work your 30 hour weeks to do your core job (and decline as many meetings as humanly possible) and go take your kids to the park or go see family. Life will be way better.
