Transformers need to rest?
They do have a useful life span of 35 years at which point they are replaced.
There are lots of papers written about the life cycles of transformers online.
Ford thought they were gong to save a lot of money skipping hybrids and going straight to BEV. I imagine they also thought that this was a more 'progressive' message. Even I could see that this was not a sustainable strategy. Executives making big mistakes and the regular employees pay the price.
I heard several issues regarding the electrical infrastructure from an insider. The one I remember most is regarding the transformers. Their life cycle is 30 years and they use the low nighttime load to 'rest'. The new transformer life cycle with evening recharging of EVs is 3 years.
