Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Alaska

A lot was said about Eagleford and Bakken so i suspect that's where we may see some realignment. How about Alaska? Serious answers only please. Like alot of others on this site, I have a family to feed and am worried.

Perfect example of yet another entitled self interested no talent work stealing facebooking new hire. Seems like the Alaska unit has been infested with them. A layoff would help cure this problem.

The Alaska office is a toliet, so now you know what all the inept leadership and employees there are. They run commercials on tv and radio telling Alaskans they found all the oil in Alaska, which is such a lie. In reality, they hardly found anything in Alaska as either ARCO Alaska or COP Alaska. Always the stray dog running after the car, not driving it.

5-10% of the Alaska office was let go after the Concho purchase and during high oil prices. There has been a ton of mismanaged hiring in Alaska recently, and during the Marathon merger corporate will take the opportunity to correct for that. Trim some fat. It’s a tail as old as time.

There will be no change to Alaska. Oil prices are expected to be high enough to turn a profit. But if you are worried then send a resume to the other producers up there. Unless of course they still have that abusive and hopefully illegal arrangement where the North Slope oil companies could not hire away from one another.
Even if you do get laid off it is easier to get another job now then it was for the poor folks who got laid off in Alaska three or four decades ago. There were not many oil jobs back then and the internet didn’t exist to look for a job. There were only a bunch of sleazy recruiters and ads in the back of trade journals and newspapers. Oh, and companies didn’t use consultants like they do now.

You can tell the op is an arrogant Alaska staffer alright. “It’s all about me and my family, skroo everyone else.”

Well you certainly are a COP Alaska employee, as you dont think things through.
Alaska has nothing to do with the merger, besides who would want that operation.
Many many people have been laid off over the years and had families, so don't think your any different, this is a cyclical industry get used to it or get out of it.

Legacy assets of the ARCO castaways. Much has been given. Little is expected.

Alaska is untouchable. They’re their own little company up there and extremely insular. Hence the behaviors in so many of their staff.

I would be surprised to see any change in Alaska at this point.
