Thread regarding ViaSat Inc. layoffs

Current Temperature at Viasat

What’s the current temperature at Viasat? Is the financial performance something openly discussed or is it just simmering and and elephant in the room?

A LEO strategy!! Pleeze. You are late to the game. Starlink is kicking your A, and so will Amazon soon. Game over!! A company in decline!

Controlling cost like travel is preached by corporate, yet never enforced. Especially in the government side of the business. Many 1000s of $$$ wasted on travel and parties.

Employees are getting 2% to 5% raises
Plus Viasat is putting more money toward new sec and maintenance positions.
So Viasat is doing okay for all the noise coming from trolls on this site.
So yes invest if that is the what you are thinking of.

Ya, our attempt at LEO is basically a Potemkin village. Buy LEO service from someone else and make fanfare we're LEO. Very little margin, cost control, or pricing power in that. The pricing power lies in owning the bandwidth asset. The right answer was to develop our own LEO but we kept betting down on GEO or Inmarsat and now have no money left so we're hoping there's enough margin in reselling someone else's bandwidth. The street understands this and will continue eroding our value more like a reseller than a growth tech innovator.

Leasing someone else's LEO bandwidth does not make you a LEO company. It makes you late to the game and just another reseller with margin pressure. It is a desperate outcome for a leader who tried everything but innovation to stop the LEO train.

You guys keep ignoring that the company has a LEO strategy. We are no longer a GEO only company. Maybe you got laid off and don’t have a clue what,s going on anymore.

That has a poor correlation to company health. Plenty of examples of cratered companies that spent like living the high life. More reliable to stick with the known financial metrics which continue their awful trend. Doing the same thing and expecting results to change is irrational. LEO is now credibly established, the available use cases for GEO are reduced. A successful flight 1 would have allowed the company to tread water and given some financial runway to consider new options without duress, but that failure at this crucial time of market grab by StarLink and soon Kuiper is likely unrecoverable. Brilliant gift to StarLink that unforced error was.

The fact they still allow travel means things aren't as bad as many of the trolls say here.

Meanwhile we sent cohorts of people to Europe for various trade shows. Let’s live the high life before it all goes down. Carpe diem, I suppose.

Bringing Internet access to the world...bla bla bla. Never mind that others are doing it cheaper.

Total elephant in the room... the stock tanked 12% after the last earnings call. It is getting really old seeing Guru talk about how great things are when reality is anything but. I will be shocked if I still have a job this time next year. Guru is trying to automate processes with AI and those that cant be automated are being sent to India... great for morale.

Be careful. People are trying to make you fell that while they're scoring points with management in the background so it will be you and not them in the next round.

Quarterly...$1.28B in sales. Net income -$124M.

How many people does it take to keep the network tuned up?
