Thread regarding Avaya layoffs

Was Edify an IP Buy + Employees or an Acquisition?

++ In late March 2024 Edify and it's active employees (presumably) had the companies attorneys sue the co-founders (who both stepped had down & away from the company months earlier) to gain access to the "Root User Account & Domain Name)

++ Industry Analyst Dave Michels posted at the time that he introduced a potential buyer to Edify in 2023 but they claimed they were not for sale.

++ What exactly did Avaya acquire? Did the founders sign off? Did the Edify attorneys settle with them or drop the case? Did Avaya just give the employees full employment status with Avaya + gain IP but not necessarily but anything.

This needs to be talked about more. What the heck is going on?

Great talent is always good. It's even better when aligned with legacy talent. It's never good when legacy is gone.
Let's hope we see value from both.

To me Edify is a small player not worthy to propose to my clients. I believe in proposing vendors and solutions that are financially solid, have market share and represent long term value to my customers.

What did Avaya acquire ? Maybe some IP in one step of a contact flow? Was it designed to integrate or scale? Who knows? Yes they acquired -35 engineers but at same time have laid off 100s of experienced engineers. So the net engineering productivity gain is questionable. . Could 35 engineers have built more than 100s of engineers on AXP? Despite the negativity on this site, Avaya engineers are very capable . Will Edify engineers stay in the DPTW? Why did the founders abandon ship if the technology is supposed to be so good? How many customers will Edify bring and at what scale ? Have they live customers with 1000s of Agents or <100? Are there customer references? Will key Edify architects stay or go? Avaya’s track record with retaining key engineers post acquisition is not good. How well is the software supported and are there good logging capabilities? Is the technology open via API and compatible at all levels? These are the questions Avaya customers should ask to see through the analyst assessment .

"Edify was making impressive progress. Google recognized them last year for their innovative approaches with Chrome, and they were one of the few providers at EC23 (15 months ago) with a working demonstration of generative AI (an assistant named Hammond"
