That isn’t true. The severance has been the same for years. Usually 2 weeks + 1 week for every full year you’ve been at the company.
I worked for a company where the first round of layoffs was 2 months pay, the second round of layoffs was 2 weeks pay and the third round of layoffs walked people out the door with no money.
