Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Future not looking good for Ford.

We are not #1 anymore with customer service due to failed apps like Ford account manager and Ford Pass. dealers are treating customers cr-ppy with all the recall issues. daily complaints about vehicles spending more time in the shop than on the road. Poor repair jobs on vehicles with recall issues. Daily calls from customers who say will never buy For again.

@2jjy+1sHTMl7d i kinda like the Mule name. Ford Maverick Mule edition. take the base model and beef up the parts a bit. "Ford Maverick Mule: Ain't pretty, but gets it done." kinda like the Escort Pony.

@2ffd+1sHTMl7d - Good post. Mike A is too arrogant to implement your suggestions. He is really nothing more than a figurehead, his boss (you know who) is running the show.

What would it take for Ford to have quality control and reliability as good as Toyota or Honda ?

@2sur A lot of the good engineers and IT people retired or were thrown out. I cant speak to the engineering side, but the IT solutions that come out of the LCC's are pure garbage. Although their technical abilities are pretty good, their designs never take into consideration contingencies that pop up. They dont have the business knowledge or experience. The first thing I would do is get rid of all the LL6's that do not have a technical background and replace them with people with experience and dont have MBA's. (an MBA is a useless credential in the IT world) Second I would call some of the old people who are gone and ask them to consult. Third, I would bring back all of the new development from the LCC's. 4th. I would tell the CIO that they are not being graded on saving money because thats the reason that we got into this mess. I'm not saying that the CIO has a blank check, but lower and lower cost comes with consequences. Most of the garbage that is going in production now could be avoided with some common sense.

The future looks like lower volumes and probably fewer players as we head down the toilet into a retracting economy. The repo business looks good though.

This may sound nutty, but in my opinion, which is just hot air, a simple low cost econobox is probably more saleable than anything else right now. Only the margins are small - maybe that means somebody new without huge overheads will pop up. Make it a mild hybrid that gets crazy good mileage and maybe you've got a winner. Let's see, we have the Mustang, the Maverick somebody else has/had the Colt... maybe we could brand the Mule. Complete with a Heee-Haaw ho-n. Instant classic.. Everybody wants to be an individual... Lowest tier, the Mule Skinner, mid range the Miner and top of the line would be the Pioneer.

Wall Street, profits, and shortsightedness will always win over long term goals, quality, and employees. CEO’s don’t get graded on long term goals or happy employees; only current stock price and performance It’s unfortunate but undeniable. This is ki-ling Boeing as well. Good luck America.

The backend services the app connects to are no better.

How the connected vehicle ecosystem had survived this long is beyond me.

I hate to say I've had a much better record with other-than-Ford vehicles, but it's true. My Fords have been the only vehicles I've ever owned that I was generally always happy to be rid of when I got something different. Most every other vehicle I ever owned I somewhat missed or felt apprehensive to get rid of, but my Fords generally gave me enough problems that I was happy to be rid of them. My last F-150 was a nightmare of never ending expensive problems. The last Ford I will own is my current Escape, which I've already had in for 2 recalls and an electrical short in the front end that was caused by corrosion, and that will eventually experience major engine issues due to excessive carbon buildup in the combustion chamber.

Yes Ford Pass and online apps are a real mess. Some of the systems that we use to assist customers with docusign forms, etc do not work half the time. It is getting embarrassing.

I recently bought a new car and refuse to install ford pass on my phone. I dont want Ford spying on me, selling my data or charging me for subscriptions. Besides that, friends have said its a real glitchy app.

Customers say they will not buy Ford again.

I won't.

I've bought many Ford vehicles over the years and I've given out a lot of PINs for A-Plan.

No more.

I worked on FordPass and the codebase for that is one gigantic sh-tshow.

It's slow as molasses and just plain bad.

Literally sh-t on top of sh-t.

I hope that team is going to be alright because they took a huge hit with experienced devs during the 2023 layoffs.

One of the tech leads in that area is technically insecure and incompetent the other a closeted sociopath.

Whole org is a political soap opera lmao

Also daily issues with apps down for the reps cannot assist the customer as needed to to lack of dependable work applications and system issues. Do not know how we have lasted this long to be honest with you.
