Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

2024 Layoffs

Which roles/bands/department/orgs should be concerned about layoffs through the rest of this year? Tons of outsourcing and automation across the board and lots of documenting processes - big push to Knowledge Exchange.

((I've looked through other recent threads and have found bits and pieces but want to get it all in one for reference.))

IT target in India is 1100 positions by end of 2024 and 7000 total over the next 3-4 years. We laid off thousands of good people here in the US to push jobs to India. We were told the lay offs were result of budget cuts needed due to severe overages. My question is when will we stop being the scapegoats for poor upper leadership decisions that are costing the company money?

Post from TheLayoff.com

PS&O has laid people off every month since January. Most employees in that area are living in fear.

Industry wide I've heard of Training/Quality departments taking hits, which seems to make sense, sadly. I don't know how we could continue to take any further hits in Customer facing and get any work done at all, everyone is already absorbing everyone else's work. Maybe the leadership will reduce more of those teams as they shrink next is my best guess. But my manager is busier and busier as well it seems so good luck with that, merging of teams will be a real circus but I wouldn't put it past them. Will be interesting to see if people actually comply with the 3days in office, I don't know anyone that has so far but I dont believe enforced until next month?

Someone in another thread mentioned PS&O. Can someone elaborate on that?

(Sorry - can't find the thread)

If you have to ask then you are probably on a list to get rid of. Start looking before they call your number. Or quiet quit and take the severance package before they get rid of that too!

About a 1000 contractors will be replaced and those roles will be filled by India office . If this model is successful, they will try and do that for several departments in Cigna and slowly try to replace the full time employees. Nobody should feel safe for the next 2 years.

Band 2 and above are at risk regardless of assignment of in office or at home. Contact Center has so much turnover that they can't afford layoffs and are taking anything they can get at this point. Cigna is shooting for a 20% reduction in total count and layoffs won't end until that mark is reached. AI is the long-term goal but we are still a long ways away from that taking over fully for many roles, we aren't Alphabet or Meta.

Case Managers

Is this due to audit performance? Will we see entire teams eliminated or will they pluck away at several Case Management teams?
