There's an inherit conflict of being responsible for administering healthcare services for the most vulnerable (who should be at the center of every decision) versus yielding high EPS for shareholders. This debate has gone on forever but only recently is it highlighted by CNC who chooses to reduce G&A expenses, cut programs, be solely focused on EPS and care less about the member. Everything they do (which, and this is a separate debate, is nothing; remember, CNC provides zero care. They simply administer) is funded by tax payers dollars, yet they don't act in the best interests of tax payers or their members;
instead, it's their shareholders. How do they get these contracts? Look at their corporate giving and their political game. For those that think this isn't a pay to play arena, you're wrong. Regulators choose to ignore embarrassing quality metrics and provider complaints because CNC is a political machine. No comment on S London; never stepped foot in a health plan until after she was appointed CEO. It's a shame they hired someone based on gender and young age. Shameful!

"Hence the outsourcing and downsizing. This is intentional, folks. We are ripe for sale. "
Yes, Yes, Yes! I have been saying this all along. This is intentional and it is working towards a sale to make money for those large stakeholders. They do not care about the vulnerable population we target, and we are all collateral to their greed.
Original Post is the ONLY truth. Why on earth would any state do business with a company that fails to meet any quality standard metrics, has multiple class action suits for fraud and thievery? Medicare stars (lack of stars) broadly displays a history of mismanagement and incompetence. Why?! Because we are the cheapest! Hence the outsourcing and downsizing. This is intentional, folks. We are ripe for sale. Don’t blame coworkers- although some are unprofessional, unproductive and witless. Higher ups are not id--ts- they are millionaires! Or they leave. You get what you pay for. This is evident in all companies in this industry. Profit driven healthcare is the antidote to safe, efficient comprehensive care to individuals, and in Medicare and Medicaid, it’s an abomination. Politicians, insurers, managed care companies, medical groups, and the biggest offenders- pharmaceutical companies - are all getting paid too well to keep it this way. Taxpayers and public pay the bill. I used to feel sorry for people entering medical field, but now doctors are charging “concierge fees” to patients to receive attentive care. They want in on the game. Pain clinics? Another evil cash cow enterprise. We in the industry see the degradation of medical care, barriers to providers and treatment , the empty promises of MAPDs. We pay far too much for “the best healthcare in the world.” Companies are using popular cultural workplace practices to tout their moral high ground whilst exploiting employees. We work ourselves to death to adapt to their latest scheme or policy, in addition to our workload. They lord this over us with constant fears of layoffs. Another distraction, folks. From the real deal, the real priority - make as much $ possible - in a never ending cascade of politics and greed. All at the expense of vulnerable and hard working people. People who need healthcare, and people who want to work in healthcare to compassionately and effectively serve patients - “one member at a time”. People who are heartbroken and betrayed by a once admirable profession. Every day I get up and pray and put my heart and mind into doing the best I can to do what I can to help others and coworkers. As well as try to think of some way to be an element of change to help steer healthcare in the right direction before it’s irretrievably broken. God willing. Be well.
