Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

alumni discount or port out after laid off?

Alumni discount denied for my lines after being laid off. They make you wait a few months before the discount is said to be effective, then the errors start, "maybe next month", then eventually, "plan isn't compatible with alumni discount".

Dealing with customer service is painful.

Not worth paying the premium prices.
Ported out.

Others successfully got the discount? Port out?

I had no issue setting it up. It said in the email you needed to wait until your employment was fully terminated. I think I did it like the week before or week that it was terminated and it was approved and passed.

I also cancelled a tablet data line I had that I never used because it went from $5/mo to like 20.

And now I'm not sure how much longer I'll stay with T mobile's plan given that they've raised prices by $5 a line on their military plan as well as every other one apparently. What a bunch of greedy aholes.

Porting Out - only reason I haven't yet is because of the employee discount.

Unless you really want/use all the bells and whistles that comes with TMO plans (Netflix discount, TMO Tuesdays, international roaming, "unlimited" data, etc.), I would port out to a prepaid plan with a data allotment you realistically use (everyone in my family uses under 10gb a month). You can save a LOT of money compared to a standard postpaid plan, especially if you prepay for a whole year.

I stayed on but because of Military discount. Also reduced the number of excess lines.
