Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

Internal transfer halted - should I contact skip level director about it?

What are my options here? Manager will not green light the transfer to another team. With layoffs team size has shrunk in half and I decided I shall not take on outstanding work especially considering compensation this year was lackluster. Do I email director and senior director? Will rocking the boat push my manager to see that I’m serious?

All the current managers need to say is “it impacts business continuity” and you’re stuck with them until they figure out to manage their team resources and responsibilities better. Only a cr-ppy manager would do this imo.

Happened to me multiple times and it was blatant because, little did they know, it was a former leader who I previously worked with and I didn’t even get to interview. It’s pretty obvious when someone is happy to hear from you, mentions letting the recruiter know, & then you get blocked from interview. I thought this was illegal. LEAVE CIGNA!

Sorry. They can hold you and as a former manager there are conversations going on behind the scenes. I would just ask for clarification from your manager how long she/he plans on holding you. If there is no answer then maybe escalate. The new manager cannot answer for you. Best of luck.

It sounds like you have a selfish pig of a manager. My senior director is a petty, selfish, two faced, arrogant, micro managing, scared boss who calls herself an “empathetic leader” and so I suggest an external attorney.

This happened to me once. I went to HR and it was pointless. You might try letting them know but I don’t have much confidence.

It used to be there had to be a valid business reason to hold. you. Your manager had to develop a plan and you could not be held more than 6 months. But that is a long time and the hiring manager may not be able to wait that long. No idea if the policy is still in place.

This happened to me 3 months ago. I am job hunting and interviewing and will be leaving Cigna soon. Letting managers halt transfers is a terrible policy because all it does is encourage us to leave the company. I wouldn’t go to your Director and Senior Director unless you know that they encourage transfers and they don’t have a buddy buddy relationship with your manager. Otherwise expect them to back up your manager at all costs and for your manager to retaliate against you. The culture here has gotten so toxic.

That's terrible. Though your manager is likely just trying to think about your team and knows no replacement for you will be approved. Was it a lateral move or comp increase for you? Good time to bargain if nothing else one option could be to agree with an equal pay bump to stay for certain time like 6 months or just start looking for outside jobs, but I think she technically can block due to "business need." You'd think if it's that hard on the team that you got blocked then a backfill would get approved though. That's a tough situation, sorry you're dealing with that.
