Post here if you've received the axe or know others who have. Let's see if we can get a general sense of how deep this cut is and which teams were affected. Good luck everyone!

HATE Optum….Money-grubbing sc-m who have no hearts…don’t care about patients or employees. Didn’t get laid off from their recently acquired and the previously amazing Lamdmark, but have no intention of staying at a company that is up on FEDERAL CHARGES!! Worked too hard for my medical license!! -angry from MASS

Whoever was talking about that WARN Act lawsuit they are filing on CA. Are you filing just for CA? Or Company-wide for all states? Hoping for the latter becuase that’s what’s needed.

Yep, my supervisor position was dissolved and at least around 15 other people in the same job were laid off at Genoa- a subsidiary of Optum.

Never been more clear that this company’s Senior leadership doesn’t practice what they preach when it comes to the Company’s Core values.

If you were one of the people whose position was eliminated in the RIF. The way the leaders handled it, which I can only imagine they were instructed to do so.. with total lack of emotion and compassion, was heartless. Shameful.

Unbelievable! The way that it was handled was the worst thing I have ever seen in my entire career. The patients will suffer,

4/18 9:30 am - Position Eliminated is what I was told. 18 years service, just a couple more years to full retirement. Last Day 5/2 I came back from 3 weeks FMLA on 4/15. I was so happy to be back to work.
18 weeks severance pay and any PTO not used. But I read it will be paid in one lump sum. After taxes?
I have been ‘work from home’ for about 13 years and I did not to want to work outside my home. But cannot find open positions with my qualifications on Intranet.

FYI:
As of April 2024, 13 states have passed their own version of the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, also known as mini-WARN acts:
California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Tennessee, Wisconsin, and Philadelphia.
These states have their own requirements, such as requiring businesses with a certain number of employees to give notice before a layoff. For example, California and Illinois require businesses with 75 or more employees to give notice, while Hawaii and Wisconsin require businesses with 50 or more employees. Iowa requires businesses with 25 or more employees to give 30 days' notice, and Maryland, Michigan, and Minnesota encourage companies to give notice instead of requiring it.
The federal WARN Act requires organizations with 100 or more employees to give at least 60 days' notice of a mass layoff or closing that affects at least 50 employees at a single worksite and lasts more than six months. Some states also have laws that require employers to pay a small severance or continue employee health benefits after a layoff.

Former Optum employee in California, a law firm was contacted to file a class action lawsuit against Optum/UHG for violating the WARN act, my understanding is that you can still sign the severance offer and join the class action lawsuit. The severance offer is proof that they are in violation of the WARN act. You can contact the law office of Allred, Maroko & Goldberg in Los Angeles, CA (323) 302-4774 for information. This information was last updated October 2023.

Do not sign your severance agreement until you look into whether or not you live in a state that has the WARN ACT. It is a law that states any company with greater than 100 employees is required to give individuals a 60 day notice before they are terminated, Optum gave us two weeks, at least they did in Massachusetts where our last day is May 2. I believe that Optum has thus violated the WARN Act and should be sued en mass numbers by all who are affected. It may be more cost effective to do so as a group. If you sign their “agreement” you are agreeing not to sue, so don’t do this before talking to an attorney which is what I plan to do

How many of those affected recently incurred lot of medical expenses or applied for FMLA just before getting the ax? Just curious.

For Optum Home & Community (Landmark/HBMC).. Does anyone have any insight into the Social Work Manager positions and what will happen with them? Will they be eliminated, demoted etc? If anyone has any information at all it would be greatly appreciated 😢🥹. Yesterday was one of the worst things I have ever experienced in my entire career.

As an outsider looking in at Optum everyday how can this be surprising? The company was bloated, so many levels (for god sakes they classify their people as “G28s”..), so much duplicity, no one knew how to navigate the organization with so many stakeholders and decision makers that stepped on one another.

The company has to be restructured to make more efficient and provide a platform that could adapt to changing care models more rapidly.

Certainly feel for the people impacted but the idea that this was a surprise is silly.. Healthcare needs to change and as the biggest organization out there this was inevitable….

For anyone who hasn't been laid off yet. It's time to prepare for the next chapter. This company doesn't deserve to be in business.

Home and Community for 6 years, G28 let go. Doesn’t seem to be performance based, my teams “scores” were in the top of the org. Not terribly surprised since this happened last year, but having a large team with great “scores” did catch me off guard. Prayers to you all effected, we will persevere

Landmark clinical patient facing for 4 years- given the boot yesterday for all the hard work and dedication I’ve provided. But yeah, the sh*tty “severance” package and whopping 40 hours PTO I’m allowed to cash out REALLY make up for the 60 hours PTO I’m now losing! Not to mention how hard it will now be to find another job in this area with the amount of others who were let go that will also be searching in the same field.
Congrats to Optum/United Healthcare for wining the ultimate game of Monopoly! The term “healthcare” needs to be changed as we all know the CARE is now gone- false advertising!

Employee surveys go out. This will impact the managers scores and then they’ll need action plans on how they will improve their scores. What a joke!

Has anyone from California looked to see if this violated the WARN Act? I believe a few states require companies to notify employees of massive layoffs 60 days in advance or give people 60 days of compensation... Something to look into since I see a lot of Cali people dropped.

I am sorry for anyone who was surprised by the ax. I can say in my opinion Optum and UHC has been wat to top heavy for awhile. They need to cut some of these director and a-s director roles. They get paid to basically do nothing other than to be yes men. I for one would love to see my director go, she is clueless has realigned assignments on our team so people are doing her job for her.

I saw a reply saying to fill out the CLL sort, is that a joke or is it important?

No one feels safe anymore. You’re given more work after layoffs and they’ll say it’s temporary. The provider and staff burnout is real!!!! Optum celebrates Culture Week next week for employees. So upsetting to work for a company like Optum. They hype everything up to just come around and be told your position is no longer needed.

Former H&C associate here. Like many others here, being hired for a full-time position at Optum was a de-facto short term rental agreement. Optum is able to operate like this because people say nothing when they should say something. Do your duty to speak out at every chance you get and warn your future coworkers not to work here.

What a day. Who wants to stay in this environment. I saw this coming from a mile away. Started following the news stories and it was leading to one thing. This was a much larger lay off than I would have guessed. They want to pay NP’s to do the job MD’s had largely been doing. This means they move them into lead app roles and obviously have to pay them less. They paint this as an opportunity. I would be apprehensive to take that role or to stay at all. There will be more cuts.
