Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

FOW and Moving

What are your thoughts on the FOW Policy and Moving? It says you have to obtain manager approval before moving if that would affect your in-office status. Also says if you're unable to comply with FOW due to your move, it's considered a voluntary separation from the company.

This leaves me disgusted, but also with several questions.

  1. If I'm currently designated as No Seat Assigned (previously Interim Work at Home) and I move 50+ miles from any office, and THEN they assign me a seat based off my previous location, does that mean I just inadvertently quit because failure to comply? OR would I qualify for WFH like anyone else who was already living far from an office before FOW?
  1. What if I'm currently No Seat Assigned, and I'm already in the process of moving out-of-state when they assign me a seat?
  1. If someone is designated as In Person at Office A but then moves out of the 50 mile radius and closer to Office B, can they be reassigned or will that be considered failure to comply?
  1. What if we NEED to move for personal reasons like family?? Cigna would rather fire us than just let us continue to WFH...

My brain hurts, but I'm currently planning a move so I have to think about this stuff, and my manager is clueless. Anyone have thoughts?

I currently live about 90 miles from the closest office. I was also recently reorg’d last qtr to a team who is NOT required to go into an office. I forget the designation category - stakeholder aligned maybe? Regardless, not only haven’t they updated our designation to match our new team members, but when I asked about moving to care for aging parents, I was told that I would have to relocate to within commute distance to an office. The cherry on top? I have been a remote employee for ALL OF THE 14 years I’ve worked for Cigna. They want to be the employer of choice? Freaking hilarious.

"”Your designation is your designation and will not change. If you are tied to an office, you can’t just move a few miles out to get the WAH status again. It’s forcing us back in time to relocate to an area near an office or find a new job."

Is this coming from management?“

My apologies for the delayed response, but yes. My source is I moved. I can’t speak to my specific situation for obvious reasons but was met with that roadblock.

Yeah, I've asked these same questions to various levels of management and nobody could give me a straight answer. There are no direct routes to my assigned office, so it end ups being over 50 miles in a car. But, it's also much shorter "as the crow flies". Furthermore, I want to move. Basically, I'm in limbo with Cigna since they aren't giving me straight answers. I'm in a list that will have to go into an office very far away, where I have zero coworkers, when/if seating becomes available.

Seriously eff Cigna. I'm done. I will live wherever the f I want to live. No employer will dictate that to me. That and the double down on days in? Nope. Hitting the job market today. Buh bye!

Dear Manager-
I am moving to a location outside the 50 mile radius. May I please have your “approval” to match the status of the thousands of others in the same situation?
How the f did we even get here?

Is this coming from management? I want to know if anyone's actually been told that you need to relocate closer to an office if your designation is In Person. I thought that 50 miles was the only definitive way to get out of it.

The biggest question I have though is if I manage to move away from an office before they assign me a seat, will that make me exempt? Or would it really be at the whim of my manager's approval?

I believe you need to get approval to move first if it will take you outside a reasonable distance to an office and you plan on staying with the company. I don't know the process your manager then needs to follow to obtain approval on your behalf and have your designation changed.

I don’t understand how your designation will not change if you move to an area outside of the 50 mile radius. Extreme example but say you live close to an office in Philadelphia and you move to South Dakota where there are no offices. Your options are then to fly to Philadelphia every week or you’re terminated?

Yes, but they claimed that 3 full days was always the intent. Odd that all these employees who thrive under in-office collaboration weren't taking full advantage of it, and leaving the office as soon as possible. Words and actions haven't been adding up.

Cigna doesn’t care about you. If your manager is clueless, then you should either find a new job where you plan to move before moving, or move and violate the FOW policy and expect to get fired. It is a stupid policy and Cigna is losing good employees by being so old school, and definitely shrinking the talent pool of new hires.

Good luck and hopefully you end up someplace much better!

I've often wondered, what if you live 48 miles from an office but not real committed to your house or neighborhood. Could you just pick up and move to another side of town to get back to WFH? And is the 50 mile radius "as the crow flies" or like the Google Maps quickest route or something, because they can be dramatically different.

Did I read the email correct, they are dropping the 50% designation and going to 3 full days?
