Thread regarding CDW layoffs

Laid off former coworkers: were there signs you missed?

If you’ve been laid off from CDW or had a team member who was laid off, were there warning signs that you recognize in hindsight? For example, many of the coworkers cut in the April 2023 layoff had low utilization, difficulty meeting sales/presales targets, a 2 rating on their PMP review, skills that overlapped with newly acquired teams, or a new manager who wasn’t familiar with their work. I suspect that most of the folks impacted in that round recognize at least one factor in retrospect. With the January round being so quiet, I don’t know whether the impacted coworkers had any warning signs at all.

Agree with many of these posts. I was performing, had good reviews, and was leading initiatives. The only warning sign in hindsight was awkwardness with my VP and CWS leading up to the date. They were avoiding me 100% - they continually pushed meetings back or cancelled on me several times. It was very frustrating at the time but didn’t put the 2 & 2 together until after the fact.

Nope, our team cut in half so they could hire a couple senior people from outside the organization. Architect roles but new manager wanted the go to market to be more BDM-like because having a whole team of BDMs, PPM, and external teams wasn't enough. Hits our numbers the first year with new manager because everything carried over from previous teams efforts and the second year didn't get close. Why take the blame when you can shift the way the team operates and eliminate those who have the most relationships built

None of those things applied. I was over 50 and making too much $. As were many others.

Being more highly paid than coworkers doing the same or similar jobs (whether due to longevity at CDW or overall experience in the field that warranted a higher starting salary) also appears to have been a factor.

In my department, low performers where laid off. We had new hires that were no impacted while others that had been employed more than 5 years were let go.

Lol, I was being added to new initiatives the day before the layoff. Everyone on our team knew that the math wasn’t adding up, but thought “we” were safe. The biggest sign that you personally are on the list to be cut is weirdness with your Director or VP… meetings cancelled, decisions about specifics involving spending delayed. You’ll know in your gut that something is off.
