Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Even more stupidity to come.

The rumor mill is a buzz with tech layoffs upcoming, been there, done that. So what will happen is this. Tech is already slim on headcount even before the layoff.

By default, Citi staffing standard is hire exactly what you need minus 30%.
Never factor in headcount when it comes to training, sick leave or vacation leave.
So layoff even more, demand to do more with less.
Declare that you are going to automate, then staff even lower. Even though you’re not there yet at the automated finish line which is 3 years out, staff as if you are anyway.
My personal favorite, tighten deadlines even more while goaling your people on no outages.

When outages occur, if you can imagine that because its such a big mystery, committee’s will be developed in order to study ‘what went wrong’.

Been at Citi for 10 years and there is always talk to automate. They waste millions on projects to automate, it does not go live and they trash it

I literally could be working 12 hours straight daily with more hours in the weekends included if I were to try to do a good job. It's just not possible, we are set for failure and then we are seen as failures. I know I'm considered to not be doing a "good job" because of not putting up all of that which would be necessary for me to do well. And on top of that have this uncertainty environment and micromanaging from middle managers who want to prove so bad they're doing something wasting people's times who barely have enough time to do their tasks?

One thing I’ve noticed for sure after 8 years here, Citi loves to over glamorize the work until you drop dinosaur mentality. It’s the only way to prove that you’re hardcore.
