Moonshot goal: "By 2030, 50% of our global workforce and 40% of our global people leaders will be women"

Facts:

  1. In the history of the world, there has never been a career, job, or profession that was 50% female.
  2. If you leave people alone and let them make the choices they want to make, there will never be a career, job, or profession that is 50% female, simply because people don't naturally divide themselves up in neat little groups like population percentage.
  3. If you put #1 and #2 together - the only way to get to a 50% female workforce is to actively discriminate against those who are not female.

I think they should keep those goals in place. This way I can laugh my ba--s off watching Dell get its a-s completely kicked by companies that focus on hiring the smartest, most qualified people.

Dell should focus on hiring the best people regardless of Race, Gender, Religion etc.... This trying to force a quota will backfire as it already has. My Manager was not promoted because she is qualified but she was the right s-x and race. 2 others who also applied were more qualified except they were White Males who were in their 50s.

They just laid off all senior women engineers in my group and two other groups that I know off. 100% senior engineers who were women were let go. A bit puzzling to hear about these moonshot goals.

The gender and race quotas will generate “diversity” hires that may or may not be worth a damn…. Probably not.

If the leadership teams would stop trying to be a good ol boys club they wouldn’t need these policies. At least in my org the (usually male) leadership would only promote men in their personal friend circle. Probably not intentionally s-xist, just that the people they hang out with tend to also be men.
