Too many PEs, Senior PEs, Fellows doing grade 8 work (especially in NEX in Austin, Texas under Sachin Katti)! Fire them including Sachin Katti his direct reports and downgrade all the PEs, Senior PEs, Fellows to grade 8-9!!!

@mjx this sounds accurate the issue is that renne did not seem to be aware of what you pointed out and even said Intel got paid twice for architecture and manufacturing while the worker bees were fully aware that the designs were sh1t who would pay for that?

No need to argue here. Apple proved that it leaf ahead after dumping Intel and everyone else is just following its steps to be success. Nobody will ever listen to Intel arguments again because it will make them failed and lost with bad decisions. Just simple as that

With all of the CSPs doing custom silicon or means less demand for Xeon.

Intel hopes to capture some of this trend with IFS.

If wishes were horses, beggars would ride…

IFS looks doomed on the face of it in terms of just economic arguments - forget about technology for a minute. Just do some back of the envelope calculations and you get a grim prognosis.

@kvt - there are two aspects to this discussion - custom silicon and manufacturing.

Tier 1 CSP customers are developing / continue to develop their own custom silicon to optimize there architecture to meet their unique workload demands, without disclosing their IP or arguing to have specific features. (Remember when Microsoft depopulated 4 core servers to add 2 FPGAs for Bing search optimization?) For example: https://news.microsoft.com/source/features/ai/in-house-chips-silicon-to-service-to-meet-ai-demand/

Intel seeks to manufacture Tier 1 customer devices as announced here for example: https://www.theverge.com/2024/2/21/24079336/microsoft-intel-chip-partnership-foundry-tsmc

Do your homework and understand what is really going on.

Not only are these companies designing their own chips but they will be using tsmc as their foundry. People are walking away from Intel in droves. These must be really dissatisfied customers for years in order for them to take on the cost of developing their own silicon. Sounds like the end of the road for x86 is in the not so distant future. This is a miss for AMD too.

Global foundries ( ex-IBM ) with their fab in upstate NY does most of the military’s chips — which are not as difficult … also , lots of analog stuff
