Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

Company Culture Crisis

In recent times, the once-stable landscape of Fidelity's corporate culture has been shaken by a series of leadership transitions and organizational shifts. Following the departure of Kathy, there's been a noticeable shift in company culture. Several new leaders have entered the fray, only to be swiftly shown the door, leaving employees grappling with a constant state of flux. Splitting PI into two units could cause more problems than it solves.

There's a growing concern among staff regarding the direction being taken. While grappling with this incessant turnover, employees are also contending with resistance from the top leadership towards embracing remote work, despite resounding support for it in employee pulse surveys.

Moreover, recent layoffs have amplified feelings of instability and confusion within the organization. With employees left questioning the rationale behind these decisions and the potential ramifications for their roles and the company as a whole, morale continues to plummet.

It's essential for leadership to prioritize stability and foster a positive workplace culture during these turbulent times.

Without decisive action to address these challenges and provide clear direction, there is a risk of further erosion of morale and talent. It's time for CEO to listen to employee feedback, embrace remote work where feasible, and work towards restoring stability and positivity within the company.

I seriously doubt Fidelity is going to make a bigger investment in Dalian. In fact, I would expect Fidelity to divest itself from Dalian in the next 3-5 years. Kathy and Ned Johnson were the big Dalian advocates, and they are both gone. Dalian never made a whole lot of sense given some of WI's customers and Chinese espionage laws. The engineering we get from Dalian is good, on par with domestic engineering, but it's not as cheap as people think, and it's not worth the risk (IMHO). The deteriorating geopolitical situation with China vis-a-vis Taiwan will tip Fidelity's hand sooner or later.

@hhn+1rwvf4pW - if you aren't an SVP+, you are a peon. And even a lot of SVPs are effectively peons (but well paid peons).

The senior leadership I've talked to aren't resistant to remote work. Every signal is the move to the office is coming from Abby directly and "it's her company." Simple as that. As a manager, IDGAF if my team members work from home or the office, but I have zero say, my manager, my manager's manager, and my manager's manager's manager have zero say.

I rode my escape goat out of Fidelity years ago when I was part of a RIF.
I feel for you all.
Now with my only remaining connection to Fidelity being that’s where my money is, I have concerns about the direction of the company and I will take a look at Vanguard.

Don’t be surprised when they stop taking pulse surveys for a while.

They never communicate layoffs company-wide.

Hate those pesky escape goats.

BUSINESS 101

Happy Employees = Lucrative Firm

Be careful Fidelity! Don’t get too co--y, you might just push too far.

I agree. I think the bigger issue isn't so much that there were layoffs, but rather the communication, or lack thereof around them. The Pulse Survey is going to keep going down...

@iws+1rwvf4pW - I sure hope you’re just a peon and not in management. That said, management IS full of peons as well.

You’re just another sheep going baa baa.

They sit on the FINRA board and will force the hand on remote work that way so they have an escape goat to blame. There is zero chance the Fidelity elite does not push everyone back to 40 hours a week in the office. The resistance will be outsourced to Dalian where the CCP culture doesn’t care. Stop fighting the inevitable and get your but back to work.

Couldn’t have said it any better. I’m shocked and appalled by how silent they’ve been through the layoffs. I don’t know what they expect employees to feel or think. F this place
