Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Should I stay or go?

I have a job offer from Nvidia. They will let me choose between Austin and San Jose.

Intel has offered me OOC to G9, and me and my family really like Hillsboro.

I don’t think there is a lot more upside at Nvidia and I really don’t want to leave Oregon. I wonder if I should just try to chug along for 15 more years.

What say this forum?

If Intel offered you G9 to keep you it probably won't last. Now they know you are shopping around. They will get whatever information they need out of you and then throw you to the curb. Use the momentum you have and keep moving. Nvidia is growing while Intel is shrinking. At best Intel will be fighting for the foreseeable future just to survive so expect low rewards and a stressful work environment.

For the OP.

What more do you need to know? Doesn't seem like a hard decision IMHO.

Today, Nvidia is growing, Intel is struggling. Sure Oregon is nice but what will you do the next time Intel decides to downsize and it includes you? Lateral moves aren't a bad thing. It's temporary and an opportunity to diversify for greater leverage in the longer term. I agree with post above. never tell your employer you've been offered another role and have them (Intel) offer you more.

You should NEVER negotiate with your current employer by threatening to leave by showing them you got an external job offer. If you accept the OOC to G9 and stay - you will be marked to be cut the next time they need to cut. Take the offer and go - Austin is better than anything in California. If you were really smart you would have applied for remote jobs - NVDA has them (they are also local in Hillsboro). Then you could have your cake and eat it too.

Do you want a FAB job at Intel or a design job at Nvidia? No brainer to me.

Nvidia gives remote work options ? No?

This is a silly question. If your family doesn’t want to leave, why did you even apply for jobs in other states?

By your own admission you don’t think there is any upside to leaving.

san jose/california is a disaster
austin in going downhill, also it is hot hot hot
nvidia is probably a better company but the other locations are not great
(but then again oregon is getting worse)

For the future of your family, Go ! Run fast and dont look back

Oregon is going to ramp down soon as soon as other sites are up and ready
NVIDA is AI eco system KING now. Revenue is double this year and will be trippled next year forward. Look at its stock price for verification
If you believe in Intel ability to fab silicon below < 2 nm and beyond then you can stay for another 15 years with your smart Intel engineers to prove Moore law is still alive to collect Intel stock and pension fund.

this is extremely interesting. you know why ?

If you were so happy with Intel why were you looking at NVDA at all ?

Does bump to G9 cover that gap due to which you even started looking outside ?

why you need to chug along for 15 years ? why not take G9 and then leave after 1 year ?

may be nvda stock price stablizes till then and then you can get a change too

There is more upside to intel stock (whatever way) in the future then it is with nvidia which already had a great run of 20x growth. Market exists for all semiconductor.

Why ask such questions in a layoff forum, trolling?

I'd stay. If you're happy, why change that?
